Upperroom x Passion

This past week I was fortunate enough to be able to attend two conferences on different sides of the country and meet some amazing, God-fearing people along the way! I can’t think of a better way to kick off 2024, but in reflecting on these experiences I’m reminded that my faith is going to be tested in the quiet moments of this coming year. It’s easy to feel fired up when you’re surrounded by a sold out venue of 60,000 people who walk, talk, and act like you, but what does it look like to live that out when it’s all over.

I realized this to be an accurate representation of what it can be like to spend time around people who are perhaps where you envisioned yourself to be in this season. I’m not racing through life against anyone or anything but my own ambition to know our Creator, and I have no desire to let that flame burn out. Our goals take time. It’s okay to take things slow. I’m learning to find a pace that works for me while allowing myself to be challenged by others who are accomplishing spiritual goals I’m just now setting for myself. When choosing who we surround ourselves with, it’s just as important we find people heading where we want to go as it is to find people interested in bringing us there with them.

Just a reminder to, among other things this year, evaluate the people in your life: who is holding you back, who is causing you to sabotage your pace and burn out, and who is truly helping you grow at a sustainable rate? taken in Mercedes-Benz Stadium by @jackthunstrom

Caleb, this summer marks 20 years of knowing you. I remember our parents walking us across the street to each others houses when we were young. I think back on my childhood and memories with you flood my mind. You’ve been someone that I couldn’t do life without. You’re the type of friend that some are never so lucky to find, and here I am with 20 years down and a lifetime to go. Last weekend I had the honor of being your best man, and I couldn’t have had a better time celebrating you and @officialcassidyvanderbeek ‘s union. Watching you grow together has been such a blessing and I can’t wait to continue to support you in this new season. The wedding was a bit of a wake up call and a reminder of all we have and how much I’ve taken for granted. As I prepare myself to see you both off to Texas, I’m getting hit by some of the harder truths of what’s next. I know I said this in my speech but it was hard enough letting Winona have you for four years, and now I’m going to be catching a flight every time I want to visit. It’s been an emotional week, but we’re figuring it out!

You have supported me through all these years so I am going to give everything I’ve got to support you and Cassidy now. This is just another opportunity to grow and learn more about how to be the best brothers we can be to one another. I am so proud of you and everything you’ve worked so hard for. I’d like to take this moment to thank a few people I couldn’t have done this without. This hole-in-one is dedicated to you!

1. @ the man upstairs, it’s a prayer I’ve prayed many times and you really delivered! You the real MVP!
2. @tylermathieu15 thanks for being too tired Sunday and making us wait an extra day to hit the links! And of course thanks for being there as a witness!
3. @iamsofiolmstead you must’ve known something was up, calling me moments after it happened! Keep reminding me to pray specific prayers!
