One of my favorite memories of Ed were of this moment: When he showed up for a Living Legacy video interview for Leadership Franklin with this trinket and these socks (swipe).

The official edited video was a solid six-minute snapshot of his passion for answering the call of service for his community. According to Ed, if you love where you live, it is your responsibility to care for it.

The socks tell the real story.

If you can locate the original raw footage, it captures something words alone cannot: the true essence of this man. In it, you'll see a man who deeply loved his wife, even following her to Tennessee; a man who was passionate about the causes he believed in; and a man whose humor, compassion, and persistence made him truly one of a kind. Those same qualities also made him, in my view, one of the very best people to have in your corner.

Hindsight can be 20/20.

We are hardest on ourselves about our worst performances. We lose sight of the fact that they show us at our best.

It's easy to win. It's hard to lose.

Here I am in the first photo finishing a race for which I was woefully undertrained yet swore would not be a DNF (Did Not Finish). It was not.

That smile is of a woman who stubbed her toes and cussed her way over [what seemed like] a million tree roots to get across that finish line and ring that finisher's bell.

It was my worst performance on this course ever. Yet finishing it was worth smiling about. I did not give up.

Runners have a routine dialogue with each other about these kind of days. It's as simple as this: "You were at the starting line and you finished the race. Where was everyone else?"

Whoever needs to hear this today, hear this: Whatever the race may be in your life, keep showing up and keep daring greatly. At the end of this life, it matters so much more to be "the doer of deeds," whether great or not, than the critic or the one who does not show up. by @jaclynkb_

Nothing like getting up early and doing some good—even if it means getting soaked before breakfast.

Rain didn’t stop this crew. Proud to serve alongside fellow Rotarians this morning in Downtown Franklin as we took down the patriotic bunting to mark the completion of another successful Paint the Town Red, White, and Blue service project in partnership with local businesses in honor of Memorial Day.

Big thanks to Christina McClary for organizing and to Steve Bacon for finding the perfect spot to turn into a bunting drying rack, so we're in a good position to do this again for Veteran's Day.

If you’ve ever thought about giving back while also building goodwill and better friendships, I can’t recommend Rotary enough. It’s one of the most meaningful ways I spend my time in our community.

And if you’re curious, you’re always welcome to come serve with me — or join me as a guest at a meeting. We more than 130 members. Two of our newest were on this rainy day adventure with us today!

Is it still volunteering if it's this fun? Yes, the answer is yes!

Volunteer at The Carousel of Dreams— whose mission is to support child and family-focused non-profits in our community.

What's one of the many ways it fundraises? Proceeds from 🎠 rides! Volunteers keep the fundraising fun amd the operating costs low, so the community impact can be high.

A bulk of today's volunteers were from the @downtownfranklinrotaryclub.
