Latitude’s AIR program was my first residency post-grad school and it played such a pivotal role during my early days in Chicago.

Latitude’s annual fundraiser Pinhole will celebrate the AIR program and its legacy, featuring editions from the vast array of incredible artists who have helped to shape this organization.

All prints are $100, proceeds will be split 50/50 to benefit artists from our residency and ongoing arts programming at the lab.

All prints will be available on our webshop from September 17th–December 7th.

Want to see them in person? Swing by the LATITUDE gallery and check out the exhibition!

Exhibition Opening
Thursday, September 17th
5:00–8:00 PM

LATITUDE’s mission is twofold: first, to provide affordable access to high end digital equipment and a production space for the creation of artwork, while offering artists and photographers technical assistance with this production; and second, to organize a diverse range of social, academic, and professional programming dedicated to the arts, including artists’ talks, workshops, reading and critique groups, print swaps, and an ongoing artist in residence program. taken in LATITUDE by @jaclynrwright

I’m wrapping up my time at @lightworkorg this week, where I spent the last month working through the early stages of a new project - experimenting in the darkroom, printing pieces for future collaging/masking, making a couple of cute little books, throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. I’ve been dreaming of this residency since grad school and I’m lucky to have been given the opportunity and time. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my partner, Zach, and family (leaving your toddler for a month is brutal). Endless gratitude to the Light Work staff - Dan, Whitney, Becky, Victor, Koz, & Cali. taken in Light Work by @jaclynrwright

High Visibility (Blaze Orange)
by Jaclyn Wright

@jaclynrwright

High Visibility (Blaze Orange) uses debris collected from improvised gun ranges on public lands to create photographic installations that explore the impacts and material traces of late capitalism and settler colonialism on the landscape of the U.S. West. Through the use of original images, archival photographs and maps, and performances, the work shows the crucial role photography plays in codifying land use. The work explores how these codes manifest themselves in behaviors observed in Utah’s West Desert.
Much of the West Desert, the ancestral home of the Goshute people, is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It is classified by the U.S. Government as “public lands.” While the term “public” implies land open to all use, significant acreage is privately leased for mining and cattle ranching. The West Desert is located on the western side of the Great Salt Lake. The Great Salt Lake is rapidly drying up due to drought, population growth, and water diversion for agriculture. The leasing of public land, capitalist water use, and human-caused ecological change are linked to the drying of the Great Salt Lake, threatening millions of migratory birds and those who live in Salt Lake City.

This past week I received official notification of tenure with promotion and a full year sabbatical. As many know, this is considered a significant accomplishment in academia yet it comes at a time where my skepticism of and disappointment in academia is at an all time high. It also comes with the acknowledgment of what higher ed offered me, something everyone should have for free. It is between these two realities that I will work to be a better organizer with @cwa7765, fight harder for and with my students, and be the biggest pain in the ass that I can to my institution😘 by @jaclynrwright

Endless thanks to @jamesnakagawa for inviting me to participate in @artists.fair.kyoto. I had such a great week visiting one of my favorite places on the planet, hanging with the best people, and finding my work advertised throughout Kyoto. Hoping it’s not another 10years before I return 💕 taken in Kyoto, Japan by @jaclynrwright

I’m slow to post but I’m so excited to have been selected as one of the @filmphotoaward Visionary Project Awards (alongside @bankscal and @1889__lover). I’ve been in the midst of an unexpected move, parenting, and teaching (plus, the state of things) and this has been such a gift in the chaos. Endless thanks to the folks at Film Photo Award, @kodakprofessional for the pile of 4x5 film, and @griffin_editions for future processing. 🎞️

“Jaclyn Wright is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Salt Lake City, UT. Her work incorporates archival images, in-camera collages using a large format view camera, performance, and photographic installations. Wright’s work critically explores the culture of land use, the legacies of settler colonialism, and late capitalism in the American West. With the awarded film, Wright will expand her project High Visibility (Blaze Orange) building on the work’s site specificity of Utah’s West Desert to include Utah’s Sentinel Landscape, which incorporates part of the Great Salt Lake and four military installations, spanning 2.7 million acres. She is interested in the relationships between the various agencies managing the Sentinel Landscape, specifically the Department of the Interior and the Department of Defense. Together, these agencies aim to address “challenges and align interests to maximize resources, build resilience in Utah’s military installations, communities, and ecosystems…” for the future. Wright’s work will examine the troublesome implications of pursuing resource maximization within the framework of military infrastructure.” by @jaclynrwright
