Tout Va Bien

hand-carved woodblock movable type on watercolour frottage monoprints which are lifted directly from my worksurfaces

named after a Brechtian 1972 Godard film about class struggle and civil unrest, this little body of live-printed work features the polemical Situationist International slogans that were graffiti'd in black spraypaint across the Paris region during Mai 68's student-led protests.

Final Porta-Confessional recap! Thank you to everyone who helped and interacted with the project! We wouldn’t have been able to do it without our awesome friends and partners. If you interacted with the sculpture during Sappy please share your experience! We’ve loved hearing the stories trickle in. My favourite so far has been hearing from a friend of a guitarist who went in late at night and was in there for a few minutes alone before a voice from the other side went: “so are you going to confess?” And then they talked for over an hour! Yay for talking to strangers and learning about eachother.

Also if you have any great pictures of the project (particularly of the before…) please send them my way!

Struts is very happy to present 𝑳’𝑨𝒎𝒃𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, July 31- August 2, a series of short-term artist projects running contemporaneous to everyone’s favourite music festival Sappyfest. We’ll be highlighting this year’s projects as we count down to the festival. But the best way to witness them is in person so get your @sappyfest tickets!

Porta-Confessional is a participatory sculptural installation which takes the form of two adjacent, meticulously-crafted cardboard porta-potty-confessional-booths. Within the installation, Sappyfest attendees of all ages are invited to either write or speak, and then leave behind, their confessions – whatever they may be.

Jacob & Teagan are Mi’kma’ki (Sackville)-based post-BFA mixed media visual artists, collaborators and friends whose work together has grown out of the spaces in between literature and art. Teagan describes Jacob as a colourfully capped, quietly smiley guy, who secretly wants to talk to you and hear all you have to say; Jacob describes Teagan as a boundlessly-effervescent, unflinching optimist whose capacity for bringing people together can only be explained by magic.
