“Self Portrait” 12”x 35” x 4”

Another use of thin skinny long glass being irritably stretched to capture light expressed in a bronze hue. A figure that comes up for me in my scribbles and thoughts. High energy guy, grateful to have a demanding art practice to spend it on.

This was a difficult piece to pull off, incredibly thrilled it made it through the process.

“Semblance” 28”x20”x5” Kiln Casted Glass

The largest piece to date and a fantastic journey through form building, mold making and cold working.

My absolute excitement is conversely polarized by the strain and angst as the material is forced into hard angular corners and cantilevered without support. An incredible display of strength and stamina on the part of this wonderful dark orange red glass. Many weeks of toil and failure resulting in an excellent use of melted silica, enabling me to scale up in size with less weight.

This marks the limit for size before machinery is involved in the lifting and transporting process. Huge thank you to all who helped with the many processes involved and pinched there fingers moving this around with me: Patrick, Abram, Cory, Oliver, Karsten, Steve, Eriko, Katherine and anyone I forgot :)

If you are around this weekend come see this marvelous statement of impermanence in person @seattleartfair along with a full body of old and new work.

Introducing @jacob.shumaker, a Seattle-based sculptor working in glass whose practice explores themes of fundamental connection and sacred geometry.

His work accentuates the unique properties of cast glass to convey mass through light by favoring a geometric interpretation of forms and focusing on volume rather than surface.

Some new things I made in preparation for Modernism week in Palm Springs. Really enjoying the red orange at the moment. I think I’ll be switching to grey soon. @prattfinearts taken in Seattle, Washington by @jacob.shumaker

Absolutely thrilled to share a new body of work that will be presented at the Palm Springs Modernism Show next weekend!

Glass casting is an exhausting process, one that I happily pour my excessive energy into. Even with my little sketches and the pictures that float around in my brain I’m always surprised and excited to see what comes from the weeks of technique applied to the material as I attempt to reimagine the human form using symbols and shapes.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in me and my work and for all the kind things that have been said about my sculptures❤️
