London Town, it would be great to see you tonight for the launch of my first monograph @icalondon Thank you to all those involved who worked with me on this over the past year. Karma Books, 2026
248 pages, hardcover
8 1⁄8 × 10 1⁄8 inches This is the first monograph on the work of Scottish-born, New York–based artist Jacob Littlejohn (b. 1995). Informed by moments of the sublime in our experience of the natural world, as well as poetry and folklore, Littlejohn’s paintings represent the new guard of abstraction. His layered, expressionist works at turns evoke topography, cosmic matter, and otherworldly environments, while remaining rooted in the formal. This volume spans paintings made over the last three years, and features essays by Hilton Als and Bob Nickas alongside texts written and selected by the artist. As Nickas writes, the artist “understands, as the Impressionists revealed, that nature reflecting itself, as in a river, offers images of abstraction. In his work, Littlejohn offers another, possibly more proximal reflection: reality in its substrate and details, examined on an atomic level.” by @jacobalittlejohn

Very grateful to have a few works included in such a stunning space @karmakarma9 group show, ‘Outside’ curated by the great @matthewhiggs2015 Bringing together work by nearly seventy artists across generations, ‘Outside’, as Higgs writes, “is as much a physical place (i.e. the world around us) as it is a psychological state (as evidenced by the mercurial sensibilities of so-called “outsider” art). It is in this liminal space-between what can be measured or depicted and that which remains unknowable-that ‘Outside’ seeks to operate.” ‘Outside’ opened Sunday, July 19, at 70 Main Street, Thomaston, Maine. The exhibition will be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 10-6 pm, through September 6. Featured artists: Gertrude Abercrombie, Etel Adnan, Dean Arlen, Eddie Arning, Milton Avery, Margot Bergman, Aaron Birnbaum, Casey Bolding, Richard Bosman, Katherine Bradford, Charles E. Fond memories looking back at these summer studio pics, despite working often in unbearable heat. Thanks to the best @benjibustamante for capturing such nice images with the best light, while making the process as chill as possible 😅 special mention to @angela__china for letting me use her beautiful space. by @jacobalittlejohn
Some monotypes made earlier in the year. These were made from collecting and printing dried flowers and other various plants or foliage found on my commute into the studio. Cyclical patterns in nature and my own practice are a continuous inspiration for my work. . All prints are oil on paper, 5½ x 7 in. (13.97 x 17.78 cm) 11 x 13 x 1 1/2 in., 27.94 x 33.02 x 3.81 cm (framed) finished with coloured pencils and made in 2025. . Titles - Silent Flame, Zealshade, Quietgrave, Morrowstem, Burial, Veil Vine, Umbra Lily, Phantomrose, Rootlit, Hauntbriar, Ichorbud, Feyroot, Dreich, Aetherbloom, Echo Vein & Bansheefern. by @jacobalittlejohn
