I had the amazing fortune to see the Super Bowl with my pops. Vegas, in so many unique and fascinating ways, sucks big hairy monkey balls, but yesterday it actually proved to be a wonderful time. I won’t forget this trip, and I’m so stoked I got to experience it with my dad ✨ by @jacobdavidellis

Today begins my second year of being sober from weed and nicotine. I was absolutely addicted to both. I had been smoking nicotine since 17 and started smoking weed at 19. I was instantly hooked. God I loved being in an altered state of mind. Ya know, for a shining moment these drugs were great. They helped me achieve calmness when I hadn't the faculties to calm myself and they aided me in finding happiness when I couldn't break through the fog on my own.

But after a while I became atrophied. I simply couldn't function without the help of my smoky treats. That was my baseline now, and that scared the hell out of me. I knew I would have to quit someday, but not just yet. It took me… sheesh I don't know, three years of knowing that I needed to quit to actually do it.

I did it though. One day I woke up, rolled myself a spliff, and sat out on my patio to smoke it—my morning routine. I leaned back in my robe, flicked my bic and held the flame to the tip of my medicine. I held it there for a second, it barely singed the paper. I watched it dance in the morning air for a minute, then I killed the flame, took the spliff out of my mouth, gave it a full inspection and literally said out loud "I'm done." and threw it in the trash along with the rest of my paraphernalia.

I quit full turkey, weed and nicotine, both on the same day. I didn't sleep for a two days, not for a second. I shook and sweated and got angry and threw shit at my walls—not literal shit, that's gross. I yelled and cursed, and in those two long days I hated living. On the third night I was able to sleep for a few hours. My withdrawals were still kicking my ass, but it was getting easier to manage my anger and anxiousness.

Then the dreams came. They came like a biblical flood. They had been dammed up for nearly six years waiting to spill over me and tell me stories in my sleep. To help me understand my conscious life by nourishing my unconscious mind.

Shadow selfie in the rain. There’s a floodlight on a roof behind us—it has two bulbs, and no matter how many times you look at it in the night you are certain that behind those beams is a car silently suspended in the blackness. To stare at it is wonderously strange. Anyway, I have that beautifully ominous light to thank for this picture. by @jacobdavidellis
