The tandem-rigged plastic eel is not new, and everyone knows they catch lots of big fish. That said, as a surfcaster I’ll never skip an opportunity to over-intellectualize this stuff to no end, and dialing in this presentation has been very educational these past two seasons. There’s a whole lot of room for nuance when you’re throwing the same thing all the time, so playing with leader material and diameter, hook size, plastic density, etc can make a noticeable difference in results, and tell you a lot about how fish relate to a spot. Pretty soon we’ll film @thefriguy doing his signature rigging method and put some cool music over it or something, just stop hounding the poor guy about it already sheesh. In the meantime here’s some ā€œsummer doldrumā€ bass by @jacobjaskiel

I’m convinced the hardest takes come when you’re completely zoned out and slow your retrieve - this one hit like lightning and yoinked me right off my rock into deep water, but luckily stayed pinned taken in The Rip by @jacobjaskiel

Since everyone and their motha is catching personal bests this spring, I figured I’d finally share my ā€œBundle Basketā€ in case it helps anyone who wants to weigh a nice fish without potentially hurting it with a vertical lift. I’ve simply taken a mesh Hoyer lift sling used for lifting patients out of hospital beds, and made some slight modifications to slim it down weight-wise and get rid of all the extra mounting loops it comes with. It’s pretty low profile when folded up and clipped to my belt, and it’s pretty easy to use when you’re prepared, but of course a buddy always helps. There are also commercially available fish slings I’ve seen, especially in the European carp and pike fisheries if that’s more your speed. Respect the fish always! by @jacobjaskiel

ā€œOne more castā€ - a lie we tell ourselves and others to give the impression that we’re done fishing. It was one of my favorite things to tell my parents when the sun was set, the boat trailered, car loaded, and the family ready to head home after a long day on the water, but on I would cast hoping for that one last fish (or ten). Not much has changed. I had Geoff build a rod to honor the obsessive nature many of us have with fishing, and named it ā€œOne more castā€. One night this spring, after what was already one of the best tides I had ever experienced waned to slack, I loudly proclaimed to my buddy Brian ā€œok one more castā€. I tossed my lure the complete opposite direction to where we had been catching, and was slammed by my heaviest bass to date. I’ll let you guess what I said after releasing this fish… by @jacobjaskiel

Shoutout to @thefriguy for swimming out, grabbing me by the collar, and swimming me back in while I fought this fish after it yanked me off the rock into 8’ water and started dragging me out into the rip. It’s what friends are for! by @jacobjaskiel
