time is an illusion that helps things make sense.

dear westlake,

four years ago, i walked into these halls not fully knowing who i was, who i would become, or where life would eventually take me. now, as i prepare to leave, i realize that westlake gave me much more than an education. it gave me memories, lessons, relationships, challenges, opportunities, and moments that helped shape me into the person i am today.

to every teacher, counselor, administrator, coach, staff member, classmate, teammate, and friend thank you. thank you to the people who supported me loudly, and even to the people who only crossed my path for a short moment. every conversation, every lesson, every laugh in the hallway, every late night, every game day, every morning announcement, every stressful assignment, and every unforgettable memory became a part of my journey.

there were moments where i felt on top of the world, and moments where i felt lost. but through it all, there were always people at westlake who reminded me to keep going, stay true to myself, and continue growing. i will forever be grateful for the people who saw potential in me even when i struggled to see it in myself.

westlake allowed me to grow not only as a student, but as a leader, creative, athlete, and person. from football fields to classrooms, from design projects to community work, i was able to discover pieces of myself that i’ll carry for the rest of my life.

as i move on to the next chapter at alabama a&m university, i leave with gratitude in my heart and memories i’ll never forget. no matter where life takes me, a part of me will always belong to westlake.

After a long journey full of decisions, growth, and faith, I’m proud to say that the next four years will be spent at Alabama A&M University, where I will be majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Computer Science. I chose AAMU because it felt like more than just a school; it felt like a place where I could grow into who I’m meant to be. The culture, the people, and the opportunities all stood out to me, and I knew this was where I could build my future. Everything I’ve worked for has led me here, and now it’s time to take that next step on the Hill.

Through hard work, dedication, and God’s guidance, I’ve been accepted into 17 colleges and awarded over $500,000 in scholarship money. I’m so thankful for every opportunity and for everyone who has supported me along the way.

To my mom, thank you for always pushing me outside of my comfort zone and encouraging me to grow. To my dad, thank you for always pushing me to stand up for myself and be great. To both of my parents, thank you for always showing up for me, supporting me, and making sacrifices for me in more ways than I can count. And to my nana, thank you for your love, for always supporting my extracurriculars, and for instilling in me the faith to always put God first.

Thank you as well to my friends and peers for your encouragement and support throughout this journey. I truly could not have done this alone.

I’m excited for what’s ahead and looking forward to seeing where this next chapter takes me. No matter where I go next, I know I’m stepping into it with gratitude, faith, and the support of an amazing village behind me. This is only the beginning. by @jacooooobi
