“Granny’s boy will be a doctor.”

Those were some of my last words to her. Growing up, I watched her defy the odds—and that same strength carried me through failing Step 1 multiple times.

Today, by God’s grace, I matched Family Medicine at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Granny, I did it. Your boy is going to be a doctor.

From the historic plaza of Jackson State University to the front lines of healthcare, we are incredibly proud to celebrate the phenomenal achievements of Jacori Daniels, M.D. A native of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, by way of Raymond, Mississippi, Dr. Daniels is a proud JSU alumnus who has officially earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center! He is now preparing to step into his next major chapter, beginning his Family Medicine residency training at Halifax Health Medical Center.

A FOUNDATION OF LEADERSHIP & ADVOCACY. Long before adding “Doctor” to his name, Jacori was a blueprint of excellence on the yard at Jackson State University. Dedicated to leadership, service, and student advocacy, he served with distinction as the Student Government Association (SGA) President. His commitment to uplifting his community was further solidified when he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, a brotherhood that continues to fuel his mission of leadership and service.

A PASSION FOR COMMUNITY-CENTERED HEALTHCARE. Blending his deep roots in Mississippi with the rigorous training of medical school, Dr. Daniels has remained fiercely passionate about community-centered healthcare, youth mentorship, and breaking down health disparities. As he begins his residency, he is taking that same fierce advocacy from the student government chambers into the clinical spaces where his representation, knowledge, and heart will save lives.

THE IMPACT AHEAD. Dr. Jacori Daniels is a powerful reminder that the foundation built at an HBCU can take you anywhere. While his titles have evolved from Student President to Medical Doctor, his core mission remains unchanged: to create lasting impact both inside and outside of medicine, inspire the next generation of doctors, and heal communities with empathy and excellence.

Congrats to DOCTOR Jacori Daniels @jacori__ ! Black males make up less than 3% of doctors despite blacks being 13% of population.

I’ve met sooooo many freshman pre-med majors who never became doctors.

Just want you to see the mindset, the grit, the determination, the patience, the understanding that’s needed to accomplish this goal!

Dr Daniels reached out to me during his time at Jackson State University @jacksonstateu where he served as Mr Sophomore, SGA President, proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity amongst MANY other accolades.

He didn’t stop at a lack of response to his texts. He scheduled an appointment at my clinic. I was moved by his assertiveness and appreciated him giving me nothing but positive energy.

I said, “I got to make time to be there for him!”

He has since gotten accepted into medical school at University of Mississippi Medical Center @ummc_admitmd , and now he is about to walk across the stage at @ummcnews graduation!

Dr Daniels, WE are so proud of you!!!
