POSTS STORIES REELS

15+ years as a professional artist, over 2,000 creatives mentored across Africa and the diaspora; one common thread I’ve seen: talent isn’t lacking; in fact, we have an abundance of talent, but strong support systems are.

Africa’s creative economy is projected to grow to a staggering $200billion by 2030 but we need the right systems in place for the people who would contribute to that leap.

That’s why we founded the School of Creative Leadership (SCL) @scl_africa , to equip and steer our creative talents in the direction of that growth.

But we want to build it with you, not just for you. Click the link in my bio to take the survey, or comment “SCL” and I’ll send you the link. by @jacquelinesuowari

QUEEN OF THE BALLPOINT PEN
Throwback to these powerful images from my “Now I Wear Myself” exhibition campaign, which lit up the Lekki Toll Gate in 2021. If you followed the message of the exhibition, you’ll understand just how symbolic this moment was.

As always, grateful to my incredible team for bringing this vision to life; Concept and strategy by @dbd.global , makeup by @flawlesstouchbymia , crown by @grxyscale_ and fine art photography by the amazing @thelexash ✨ by @jacquelinesuowari

When I founded the Passion for Art Initiative over a decade ago, I had no blueprint, just a deep desire to help young people believe in their dreams of becoming artists.

I remember those early days, trying to organize exhibitions for fellow Youth Corps members and facing rejection after rejection. One day, I vented to @colourmimi , and she said something I’ll never forget: “Be patient, Jacqueline. When you become a recognized artist, people will take your organization seriously.”

That stayed with me.

So we kept going; brick by brick, brushstroke by brushstroke. Free art lessons. Donated supplies. Mentorship circles. Industrial training. Real, meaningful collaborations.

We didn’t do it for the applause, but 14 years later, here we are.

Thank you, @mipad100 , for this recognition. And heartfelt congratulations to my fellow honorees.

This is for every young artist still daring to dream.💛 by @jacquelinesuowari

I am what I do with my hands✍️ by @jacquelinesuowari

Perhaps the most beautiful thing about @jacquelinesuowari 's work is that she reminds us that seeing is not the same as looking. She looks at the human figure and finds the silence between words, the weight behind a gesture, and the stories people carry without ever telling them. Her work feels less like an attempt to capture people and more like an invitation to understand them.

And maybe that is what makes her art so endearing. Jacqueline doesn't ask us to admire the figure from a distance; she asks us to slow down and feel it. Beneath the precision, the lines, the culture and the extraordinary patience is a simple human question: what if we learned to see people beyond what they show us? Perhaps Jacqueline has been answering that question, one figurative work at a time. by @jacquelinesuowari

Does it still count as HARD WORK if you love doing it? by @jacquelinesuowari

Last year, I had an amazing time on the @artists_tales_podcast talking about my work and the subtle representational languages I have embedded in my practice over the years.
I know a lot of people are intrigued by my use of materials and how it all comes together, but it all starts with the stories I’m bringing into awareness through material symbolism.
