A hand built ammonite mug l couldn’t save so decided to tumble & slightly smooth the edges of the broken pottery shards. Planning to add some pieces to my mosaic path (eventually) and maybe include some in my future ceramic pieces.

Experimenting with texture; bicarbonate of soda & white vinegar on bone dry greenware (unfired) clay reminiscent of mid century lava effect glazes popular in the 1960s and 70s. Hopefully l can start incorporating this into some of my mudlarking inspired pieces once l’ve seen the results. Thank you to Bavafa on YouTube for the idea @bavafa_artcrafts

Mug lineup. Plan to continue testing on different clay bodies to see how the glazes react & then try some further glaze combinations. Second mug will need a refire.

Hi everyone! I haven’t posted in a while but some of you may have seen l’ve been testing lots of new glazes. I found a few l really like & others l still need to experiment with further but l’m really enjoying the process. Lots of patience (as always with ceramics), a few failures but no disasters yet! I’ve listed a few of my favourite mugs in my Etsy shop if you would like to take a look.

I’ve also been busy with family & planting up my new(ish) garden in Dorset which is beginning to take shape & slowly attracting more wildlife. It was so special to see the Hummingbird moth last week which you may have seen in my story. My garden is relatively small now (one of the reasons l downsized) but l’m trying to include lots of insect friendly plants, herbs & medicinal plants & a little veg. I still need to start my mosaic path but did manage to make some ceramic objects to include in it last week.

A few photos from January. I spent most of it wiped out by a cold/cough virus which followed on from an illness before Xmas so it was nice to get out & about over the last week or so in-between the horrendous downpours.

A peaceful walk @comptonacrespoole where l spotted a Goldcrest (King of the Birds in European folklore). I often hear & see them from afar as they flit between the pine trees but always a special moment to see one up close.

Making fermented red cabbage for the first time in an attempt to boost my immune system. Massaging the cabbage felt like a workout! Hopefully worth it.

Stormy seas & colouful beach huts. Beach walk with my eldest daughter & granddaughters. My eldest granddaughter loved walking through the sea foam!

Starting to make plans in my garden. Planted a Variegated Pittosporum (evergreen) & an architectural fern which should, in time, hide my compost bins. At least the rain will settle them in!

Hopefully back to making pottery again soon. Happy February everyone & hopefully some dry, sunny days on the horizon to cheer us all up.

Really pleased with the green glaze on my ammonite mugs. The glaze is a little unpredictable but l applied it higher on these ones so it didn’t run off & to show the lovely textured clay l used.

Available to buy at the Christmas Fayre in Westbourne, Dorset Saturday 6th December 10.30am - 3pm (see previous post) & in my Etsy shop from Sunday 7th.
