No block party should leave our streets looking like this 🚯🙅🏼‍♀️🙊

We share a responsibility for our planet and for inspiring the next generation 👦🤝👴

That means taking personal responsibility for our actions and how we treat our environment is essential 🙌🏼

It doesn’t mean we must feel responsible for saving the world all by ourselves, but rather, that we must practice small gestures that demonstrate our care helping others show up better too 🙏🏼

It starts with simply not leaving garbage scattered on the streets we call home 🚯

And maybe exploring more creative ways to enjoy time with our children without resorting to silly string and cherry bombs...

I hope this post inspires you to refrain from littering while also taking small steps and having more conversations about how we can collectively contribute to a better planet, creating a positive ripple effect for the world 🌱✨🌎

What’s one small gesture you practice to show your love for our planet? 🤔❤️🌎 by @jade__carina

We’re made to believe that sustainability has a certain aesthetic and comes with a certain price tag but really this movement has been corrupted by capitalism and sold back to us for profit.

Brands label their products and make deceptive claims with fluffy language that don’t actually have any backing.

And worst of all we feel so overwhelmed that if we can’t do everything, we shouldn’t bother at all.

But here’s the truth:

📣 Sustainability isn’t a product—it’s a PRACTICE

Sustainability at its roots is about doing more with less, living in harmony with nature, being mindful of what you consume, and recognizing that you don’t have to do it all. You just have to try your best and make small changes along the way.

We don’t need to buy more bamboo, glass, and linen to live sustainably.

We need to consume less, waste less, and demand more from systems designed to profit off of us.

The real problem is the burden of climate collapse has been dumped on the consumer while corporations continue to pollute at unimaginable levels with little consequence

Yet even still, we hold the power.

Every choice we make, every dollar we spend OR don’t spend, and every conversation we have is a step toward collective change.

You don’t have to buy more or be “zero-waste” to live sustainably.

You don’t have to do it all.

You just have to care enough to do something.

And when you lead with thoughtful intention, it’s more than enough.

In honor of Earth day, what’s one habit change or sustainable swap you’re looking to make this month?

I want to make more time for long walks in nature and swap out my laundry detergent for a cleaner sustainable brand - recommendations are encouraged 😝💕 taken in Brooklyn, New York by @jade__carina

Went for apples, left with pumpkins 🍎🎃

A scary truth- NJ’s apple harvest was very low this year due to a heat spell during late winter/early spring. Trees bloomed, then it frosted, and they didn’t bloom again for this season, so no apples to pick.

Yet somehow our grocery stores never run short on apples…

Moments like this make me scared for the future, however, being surrounded by friends and laughter with a healthy curiousity and joy for nature gives me hope ❤️🍏

It’s hard to admit I stayed much longer than I should’ve.

Someone shows you who they are but you already put them on a pedestal…

You try so desperately to keep them there you don’t realize you’re drowning in denial to keep a relationship afloat that constantly makes you feel rejected, exhausted, and misunderstood…

It took 3 long months from this moment, 3 self discovering solo trips, many tears, moments of rejection, disapproval, disappointment, even prophetic dreams.

All this and it wasn’t until I had a full body panic attack that I finally surrendered to the truth.

I pushed my body to her limit and she had had enough.

I could no longer put off the inevitable. The relationship was over.

It was a clean and easy break. Hard in ways but for the most part simple. Amicable.

Initially I was relieved not to disappoint him. Not to have to explain myself to him. But that relief turned into sadness and anger.

If I didn’t do it then, how long would I have stayed complicit in a relationship that lacked love, depth, and honesty?

How much longer would I have committed myself to a relationship out of comfort?

I was deeply exhausted from a relationship that left me feeling physically, mentally, and financially used.

But finally for the first time in my adult life, I had time for myself. To be my own person.

To explore who I am without wondering how I will fit into another person’s life.

To do what I wanted to do without worrying about someone else’s approval. Not having to make space, give time, or energy to someone who didn’t appreciate it in the first place.

I stumbled upon this video the other day and felt called to share because of how far I have come from that version of myself.

I feel more myself, more Jade, than I ever have in my life.

There are so many parts of me that are different, and so many that are the same. But I see them all now. I love them and accept them.

It is never easy to turn away from someone you love, but you have to love yourself more. Stop making excuses for someone you think they can be and accept them for who they are now.

When someone shows you who they are, save yourself the heartache and believe them the first time. taken in Bensonhust, Brooklyn, NY by @jade__carina

My inner child was so full of joy exploring nature, sharing memories, climbing trees, being silly, identifying and giving thanks while foraging for berries and seeds.

So incredibly grateful for my community, my friends, my chosen family 🫶🏼

People who celebrate and steward nature. People support each other. People who share joy, hold space, and empower each other to be the best versions of ourselves.

Days like this remind me that we are building a present and future of togetherness with one another and with nature.

Life has been so busy… full of friendship, family, stewardship, and joy. One day bleeds into the next and all of a sudden July is almost over…

I haven’t shared in a while partly because so much has changed and I’ve let so much time pass that I don’t know where to start. Part of it is that I just don’t want to be sucked into the black hole of social media and another is that I just don’t want to be perceived.

Wanting to be perfect, knowing there’s no such thing but striving for it anyway and getting lost in analysis paralysis. It’s a silly game I play with myself and the truth is there are no winners.

Maybe I’m just too hard on myself and maybe I should care less. Or maybe I should stop making things deeper than they need to be.

A truth I’m learning to accept is that I won’t always make sense to everyone, that some people just won’t get it and it’s not my responsibility to help them. And some people just won’t like me and that’s okay.

I’ll just keep being my joyful little self attending and hosting as many stewardship events I can, junk journaling with my friends, learning new things, practicing my plant ID, and making the most of this wonderful little life ❤️

So here’s to creating more than consuming, sharing for the sake of expressing yourself, and loving yourself for exactly who you are 😘

Officially a NYC Master Composter! 🪱

Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of completing the NYC Master Composter Certificate Course workshops through @bigreuse’s incredible in-person cohort attending site visits @redhookfarms , @skyfarm, and @bigreuses composting site at the Salt Lot in Gowanus

This free program, administered by the Lower East Side Ecology Center in partnership with various community compost organizations across all five boroughs, educates and empowers New Yorkers in community composting through workshops, field experiences, and volunteer service.

Along the way, I learned so much more than just how to compost. We explored soil health, urban ecology, environmental injustice, community organizing, and how circular systems can strengthen our neighborhoods from the ground up 🙌🏼

A huge thank you to @lesecologyctr for hosting such a beautiful and fun graduation celebration @brooklynbotanic, and all of the educators, organizers, and fellow composters who made this experience so meaningful.

This is just the beginning and I am so excited to bring compost systems and education through community stewardship to Southern Brooklyn 🌱🪱♻️ taken in Brooklyn Botanic Garden by @jade__carina

What do we want? 1% for parks! When do we want it? NOW!!

Every year @nycparks fights for 1% of the cities budget and every year they fall devastatingly short.

I am proud to support @ny4p, @nylcv, and @dc37nyc in the Play Fair Rally on the steps of City Hall to demand that our @nycmayor and @nyccouncil fund our parks the way it rightfully deserves.

I stand with @naturalareasnyc, @marineparkalliance, @nycparks Super Steward Program, and of course @earthstewardsnyc (to name a few) who ensure our parks and natural areas are protected, stewarded, and well loved 💚

New York City cannot thrive without its green spaces and our green spaces cannot survive without us.
