Here’s a little breakdown of my very first dive at my very first World Championships in Cyprus - 69m for the Bronze medal 🥉

Aside from the already crazy nerves, post-sickness, and questionable conditions leading up to the dive… the final moments were eventful 🫣

About 2 minutes before entering the water to start my mental prep, I stepped on the buckle of my neck weight and broke it. A few of us were frantically trying to find a spare when @talyadavidoff came to the rescue and lent me hers - forever grateful 😘 I knew the weight was slightly lighter than what I’d usually wear so I knew I had to kick a little more than usual… which I may have overdone a bit haha

Because of this, I had 3 minutes to get to the dive line instead of my usual 15. @kim.dahlgren towed me out, putting on a calm face while quietly stressing that I wouldn’t have time to settle before the dive 😅

Somewhere in those same 3 minutes… I realised I was diving for Bronze.
Cue heart rate, nerves, and stress absolutely through the roof 👆

Then the dive started — and suddenly everything felt incredibly relaxed.

When I hit the bottom, I was so shocked by how good it felt that I had a huge wave of excitement (hello, heart rate spike 😅). Knowing I don’t usually struggle with hypoxia and never find the ascent challenging, I was honestly just too excited to surface.

At the surface, having someone coaching and talking to me — after mostly diving under CMAS rules where no talking is allowed — I felt rushed and flustered… which meant I literally forgot to BREATHE 🤣😮‍💨
Who would’ve thought?

That’s when the very foreign feeling of hypoxia set in, and the finish wasn’t as clean as the rest of the dive.

Although the Bronze was ultimately overturned to a red card for surface protocol, I learned so much from this dive. Looking back now, I’m incredibly proud of this first dive at my first World Champs.

Having only been diving part-time for 2.5 years, I’m excited to keep growing — learning from every dive, every mistake, and every other diver around me 🫶

✨ Two new Continental Records in Free Immersion today at the World Apnea 2026 Depth Championships ✨

Jade MacDonald-Razvi (AUS) set a new Oceania Continental Record at 85m, breaking a mark that had stood for nine years. It is the third continental record she has claimed this year.

Talya Davidoff (RSA) took the African Continental Record to 82m - three years after setting the previous mark herself. Since then, she had gone deeper, but early turns meant the dives did not receive the white card required for a record. Today, the whole dive came together.

Congratulations to both, and to everyone who competed today.
