Adopted people are twice as likely to develop substance abuse disorder. I am 66 days completely sober (if you don’t count caffeine 😅) which is the longest I’ve ever gone since I began drinking and using substances at 16. Is it a forever thing? TBD. But I know this change is for the better. it’s been a wild time and I’m grateful you’re all along for the ride. To consider ‘American Doll’ purely a musical album would perhaps be a mistake.

Layered and meaningful, the record is more akin to a work of art with a large context around it, an evocative and reflective deep dive into @jae.ci lived experience as a Korean adoptee raised in an Italian-American family.

27 years ago today I flew into Newark airport and met my parents. My displacement from Korea shows up everyday in little ways that feel like a thousand tiny cuts. No matter how much energy I put into reclaiming my Korean identity it will never be enough to recover what was lost. All I’ve gained will not fill the void of what I lost. It’s never simple or straightforward. My loss is intertwined with my parent’s joy, our love is intertwined with fear.
I’m really happy to be able to spend this day alone away from everyone. Excited to see my adoptee family tomorrow and this weekend though ♥️
