Athletes are built for entrepreneurship.We know how to work when no one is watching, adapt when things don’t go as planned, lead through challenges, and stay committed to long-term goals. The lessons learned through sports: discipline, resilience, accountability, teamwork, and perseverance don’t end when your athletic career is over. In many ways, they become the foundation for building a business.Honored to speak on the “Built to Compete: The Athlete’s Journey to Entrepreneurship” panel at ENTREFEST, hosted by NewBoCo, alongside an incredible group of former University of Iowa athletes who have gone on to become founders, business owners, and leaders in their industries.We shared stories about setbacks, pivots, lessons learned, and the realities of entrepreneurship, while reflecting on how our experiences as athletes prepared us for the challenges of building something from the ground up. It was a great reminder that while the sport may change, the mindset that drives success remains the same.And on a personal note, I wouldn’t have built Unbreakable Female Athlete without the coaches and teammates who shaped me at Iowa Rowing. Today I presented the first ever Unbreakable Female Athlete Award: an award created to honor the resilience, strength, and perseverance female athletes carry both in sport and in life. When I started Unbreakable Female Athlete, my goal was always to create something that made female athletes feel seen for everything they overcome behind the scenes.There could not have been a more deserving first recipient than @issyallen_ I had the privilege of competing alongside Issy as a teammate, but even more importantly, building a genuine friendship with her outside of the sport. She is one of the strongest and most inspiring people I have ever met. Through every challenge and moment of adversity, she has continued to show up with grace, resilience, and a heart that impacts everyone around her. This obstacle looked impossible. One wrong move and everything falls apart. Why are running shoes always so uncomfortable?Digging into your heel, causing blisters… like they were never made for us in the first place.I didn’t realize how much I was adjusting as a female athlete, until I didn’t have to anymore.For so long, women’s running shoes were designed for men, then scaled down. And we just learned to deal with it.For the past year, @wear_hettas have been my daily runners… and they’re built differently. Actually designed to fit a woman’s foot, support how we move, and feel right on every run.And that matters.Because when something as basic as your shoes finally fit the way they’re supposed to, it changes how you show up.If we want girls and women to stay in sport, we need products that are built for us, not adapted to us.#UnbreakableFemaleAthlete#WomensRunning #WomenInSport #Running #FemaleAthlete by @jaeceehall
