During week three, we were surprised with our very own We Can’t All Be Psycho-Realist snacks! Thank you to the amazing Ms Patricia Moore (Ms Pat) for donating these to our class.

Ms Pat, the community of We Can’t All be Psycho-Realist is so appreciative of you and everything you have done to support the next generation of leaders in the arts!

Community is such a big pillar of the work we do in We Can’t All Be Psycho-Realist. It truly takes a village to produce something as huge as these classes. The founders couldn’t do it without the help of so many. So thank you to Ms Pat and every single person who has supported We Can’t All Be Psycho Realist in some way. We see you. And we appreciate you!

For all the emerging entrepreneurs and leaders, we hope this inspires you to dedicate yourself to anything your intuition speaks into your life. Achieve your goals. Do something big.
Create opportunities for people. Put people on game. Don’t ever feel like you’re alone in anything, your community will always be there to help you build 🎭💙

We’re diving into theatre and acting approaches beyond the commonly explored Meisner and Stanislavski techniques. Come play with some abstracted theatre work with us Every Wednesday from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center.

Much of this text was from Jordan E. Cooper’s Ain’t No Mo and directed by Jaedyn Givens.

What is We Can’t All Be Psycho-Realist (WCABPR)?

We Can’t All Be Psycho-Realist is a six week actor training program designed to manifest a future where actors of color will connect acting approaches to their culture and ancestry. We dismantle common misconceptions of acting by studying physical theatre, Black acting methods, movement, and African diasporic technique. We empower actors with processes and skills rooted in their cultural identity, moving beyond convention psychological techniques.

At the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center in the heart of the L.A. Black Arts District, Leimert Park we cultivate a space where expression and creativity will lead to becoming.

Welcome to acting practices that unite. Actors have always carried the weight of the human condition. In “We Can’t All Be Psycho-Realist” we will spend 6 weeks experimenting with texts from Black and Brown writers. We will also prioritize cultivating an artistic message and aesthetic throughout our work. Come join us as we learn approaches to acting that unite & heal our communities.

This video contains text from N’tozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered/When the Rainbow is Enuf and Ryan Calais Cameron’s For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy. Thank you to these writers.
