If you drive around anywhere in L.A., then coming across this beauty by Eric Owen Moss in Culver City's industrial area south east of old town will definitely impress. The structure, labeled Waffle building, was built to house Verpertine restaurant in 2018 or so. With covid that halted any indoor dining. It might be up and running now, 2023.
The facade is definitely one to make you keep staring at it trying to decipher what came first the glass or the steel.
It is a rolex for sure, but a welcome one in a sea of mediocrity.

I would drive by this in Beverly Hills when it started construction. It sits right on Santa Monica and Stanley Drive. It was designed by MAD architects and it has a living garden facade. It was built in 2020, named Gardenhouse and features several condo housing units with interior courtyard and a few townhome style units on the south side of the lot.
Given that Gruen Assoc and Rottet Studio assisted with the final design, this is a stand our mixed use structure in a sea of residential single family homes, corner gas stations, retail strip malls and 4 story office buildings.
The details are well done and left me impressed.

This church along Fremont Ave. just south of South Pasadena High School was built in 1923. It is the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of L.A. Holy Family Church. It was design by Architect Emmet G. Martin, brother of A.C. Martin. The style is Spanish Colonial Revival, sits on the corner of Fremont Ave. and Rollin Street.
The details and the maintenance of the building make you feel like it was just built, smooth walls, clean doors with gleaming brass, beautiful rose window.

This church also on Fremont Ave. in South Pasadena is the St James' Episcopal Church, built in 1905 with additional work over 20 years. It was designed by Architect Bertram Goodhue of Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson of Boston. The style is Gothic Revival mixed with Romanesque Revival.
I will post some more of this as the multi-photo post doesn't allow for correct format.
The rose window is my favorite, can't wait to go inside and take some more photos. Love the scale and the details from the outside, located right on the corner of Fremont and Monterey it is really lovely.
