In one week, the Chicago Festival Of György Kurtág concludes in collaboration with NMC Presents!

Join us at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, October 20 at Experimental Sound Studio or online for a deep dive into “Signs, Games, and Messages”—Kurtag’s brief, enigmatic beguiling solo and chamber works being composed well into the composer’s 100th year of life.

We’ll hear selections performed by clarinetist Zachary Good and pianist Jonathan Hannau. Musicologist Pedja Kovacevic will moderate a preconcert discussion with the performers, festival organizers, and NMC leadership at 7 pm.

Stick around for the birthday cake! RSVP via the link in our bio.

Support for this festival, in addition to NMC’s state and foundational allies, include the Illinois Arts Council, the Tulipan Foundation, and Fulcrum Point New Music. First image by Constance Volk. taken in Experimental Sound Studio by @jahannau

We are so excited to share Caelus with you! It is the first single off of the upcoming EP, Celestial I - a collaboration between @jahannau @jeffroymusic and I on @enjoumusic.

Caelus starts with Jonathan Hannau’s icy, sparse piano performance, evoking our solar system’s seventh planet and the Roman version of the god it is named for. This planet’s status as an ice giant is musically communicated by the track’s evolution from chilly, minimalist keys and guitar harmonics to a lush violin arrangement from Jeff Roy.

FLANNAU NATION: Our season fundraising campaign is officially under way 🤯🫨 and we’ve already made some progress!! Thank you to those who’ve helped us get the ball moving ❤️ (and thank you to those who help out in the future 🥰)
As you consider a donation: it IS tax deductible AND EVEN BETTER: there is a donor advised fund that will match up to $1500, which essentially DOUBLES your donation 🔥💯🥳🤩 head to our Linktree in bio to donate!

We have so many cool projects on the horizon and are so grateful for your support: and you may ask yourself: Why an album? Why music videos?
- As Flannau Duo enters it’s fourth season, the ambitions of the ensemble continue to grow. Supporting the ensemble ensures the project’s longevity and makes our growing ambitions a reality!
- This album not only showcases the duo, but also captures the brilliance of the four composers and their incredible music. Supporting the fundraiser for Flannau also supports these composers and their voices!
- Here’s a reality in the performance scene: music videos get gigs! Presenters will see these videos (either found on the web or sent by us) to pick ensembles for performances. A crisp, well-produced video speaks volumes! Investing in music videos offers incredible returns for the ensemble.

Much love,
Kyle and Jon 🥁🎹 by @jahannau

🚨KURTÁG @ 100🚨

I’m excited to be part of the Chicago Festival of György Kurtág’s music in the coming weeks. I will be playing his 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴, 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 for solo double bass and 𝘉𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘴 alongside @jahannau and my @terns_duo ally @sasha.ishov on 10/11 at @constellationchicago

I will also be joining @fulcrumpoint on 10/18 at @constellationchicago to perform Kurtág’s 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦 à 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘨𝘦 and 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘱𝘳ü𝘤𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘗.𝘉 🤘🏻

Kurtág’s music has been deeply influential since my first encounter early in my graduate study, and I’m excited to be part of such a great crew celebrating his centennial. Many thanks to @galatdan and @lizasobelcrane for organizing these events! taken in Constellation Chicago by @jahannau
