Egungun is a masquerade in Yoruba culture that represents the ancestors of different families. They are supposed to uphold and enforce the wisdom, culture, and morals of those who have passed on. They are also known for putting on a show through colorful costume and dance. In costumes ranging from all colors, elaborate fabrics, cowries, they twirl and dance across Yorubaland in Nigeria and Benin Republic.

During colonization many of these costumes were stolen and put into European museums. Following the competition theme of combining old African expression with new, we put a twist on the Netflix TV show Money Heist. Where we went through a western museum and took back all the stolen African artifacts. The first artifact was Egungun, who woke up from its colonial sleep and joined the mission. Sadly we lost the competition but the concept was still greatly appreciated. by @jaidola_
