👂 Our teeth , our hair, our bodies , our homes, our cars, even our phones need cleaning . Your ears are amazing. They do not need cleaning … they are nature’s miraculous self cleaning structures.Treat them gently.
✨ DO
✅ Let the ear clean itself. Earwax is natural and protective.
✅ Keep your ears dry after swimming or bathing.
✅ Use ear protection if you're exposed to loud noise.
✅ Turn the volume down when using earphones.
✅ See an ENT specialist if you have pain, discharge, hearing loss, ringing, or persistent itching.
🚫 DON'T
❌ Don't insert cotton buds, hairpins, keys, matchsticks, or earbuds into your ear canal.
❌ Don't try to remove earwax yourself.
❌ Don't ignore ear pain or discharge.
❌ Don't use ear drops without medical advice, especially if you have a perforated eardrum.
❌ Don't listen to music at high volume for long periods.
💡 Did you know?
Earwax isn't dirt. It's your ear's own cleaning and protective system. Most ears don't need cleaning at all!
A simple rule to remember:
"Never put anything smaller than your elbow inside your ear." 😉
Healthy ears today mean better hearing for years to come.
❤️ Share this with someone who still believes cotton buds are meant for cleaning ears!

👃 NOSE BLOCK?
DON'T JUST GET USED TO IT.
A blocked nose is one of the most common ENT complaints.
Sometimes, it’s just a passing cold.
But sometimes, your nose is trying to tell you something. 🚨
🟢 YOU CAN WAIT & WATCH
If your nose block:
• Started with a cold
• Is mild
• Is gradually improving
• Has no significant pain, bleeding or high fever
🔴 SEE AN ENT IF…
1️⃣ IT PERSISTS
Nasal blockage lasting more than 2–3 weeks deserves evaluation.
2️⃣ IT'S ALWAYS ON ONE SIDE
Persistent or progressively worsening one-sided blockage should not be ignored.
3️⃣ THERE'S BLOOD
Recurrent or unexplained nosebleeds—especially from one side—need assessment.
4️⃣ THERE'S A BAD SMELL
Foul-smelling or blood-stained discharge, particularly from one nostril, needs attention.
5️⃣ YOU'VE LOST YOUR SMELL
Persistent or unexplained loss of smell should be evaluated.
6️⃣ IT'S AFFECTING YOUR SLEEP
Loud snoring, mouth breathing, choking/gasping at night or poor-quality sleep may indicate an underlying problem.
7️⃣ YOU'RE HAVING FACIAL PAIN OR SWELLING
Especially when associated with fever, severe headache or worsening symptoms.
👶 AND FOR CHILDREN…
Persistent mouth breathing, snoring, restless sleep, recurrent ear problems or poor concentration can sometimes be related to nasal obstruction and should not simply be dismissed as a habit.
👃 REMEMBER:
“Nose block” is a symptom—not a diagnosis.
It can be caused by allergy, infection, enlarged turbinates, deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps or sinus disease—and occasionally, something more serious.
🚫 Don't keep using decongestant nasal sprays for prolonged periods without medical advice.
🌿 YOUR NOSE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORK HARD TO BREATHE.
If the blockage persists, keeps returning, or is affecting your sleep or daily life—find out WHY.

🚨 When should enlarged adenoids be operated?
Not every child with enlarged adenoids needs surgery.
Adenoids are a normal part of a child’s immune system, but when they become significantly enlarged or chronically infected, they can start causing problems.
👃 Adenoid surgery may be considered when your child has:
🔹 Persistent mouth breathing
Especially when the child struggles to breathe comfortably through the nose.
🔹 Loud or habitual snoring
Particularly if there are pauses, gasping or restless sleep.
🔹 Sleep-disordered breathing / obstructive sleep apnea
Poor-quality sleep can affect a child’s daytime behaviour, attention and overall wellbeing.
🔹 Persistent nasal blockage
When medical treatment does not adequately improve nasal breathing.
🔹 Recurrent or persistent ear problems
Enlarged adenoids can contribute to Eustachian tube dysfunction and recurrent middle-ear fluid or infections.
🔹 Persistent nasal discharge or recurrent adenoid infections
Especially when symptoms continue despite appropriate medical treatment.
⚠️ One important point:
The size of the adenoids alone does NOT decide whether surgery is needed.
A child with large adenoids may have very few symptoms and may not need surgery.
On the other hand, even moderately enlarged adenoids can cause significant problems in some children.
👉 We treat the child, not the X-ray or scan.
If your child is always mouth breathing, snores regularly, sleeps restlessly, has pauses in breathing, or has repeated ear problems, an ENT evaluation is worthwhile.
Early evaluation can prevent years of poor nasal breathing and disturbed sleep.

🚨 GIDDINESS OR VERTIGO? DON’T IGNORE THESE RED FLAGS.
Most episodes of dizziness or vertigo are not dangerous. But sometimes, giddiness can be a warning sign of stroke or another serious condition.
🧠 Remember BE-FAST
B — BALANCE
Sudden loss of balance, severe unsteadiness or difficulty walking
E — EYES
Sudden double vision or loss of vision
F — FACE
Facial drooping or asymmetry
A — ARM
Sudden weakness or numbness of an arm or leg—especially on one side
S — SPEECH
Slurred speech, difficulty speaking or difficulty understanding
T — TIME ⏰
If any of these symptoms appear suddenly, time matters. Seek emergency medical attention immediately.
🚩 Other red flags during an attack of vertigo
🔴 A sudden, severe or unusual headache
🔴 New severe neck pain with sudden dizziness/vertigo
🔴 Sudden hearing loss, especially with acute vertigo
🔴 Loss of consciousness, confusion or marked drowsiness
🔴 Persistent severe vertigo with new neurological symptoms
⚠️ Remember: The severity of the spinning does NOT tell you how serious the cause is.
If you suddenly develop vertigo with BE-FAST symptoms or severe difficulty walking, do not wait for it to settle and do not drive yourself. Seek urgent medical evaluation.
Know your vertigo. Know your red flags. 🌀🚨

🛏️ Why do I feel dizzy when I turn in bed?
That sudden spinning sensation when you turn over in bed may be BPPV — and the reason is surprisingly mechanical! 🌀
Deep inside your inner ear are 3 pairs of semicircular canals — one pair on each side. These canals detect rotational movements of the head and work together with the eye muscles to keep your vision stable when you move.
But sometimes tiny calcium carbonate crystals called otoconia become displaced from their normal location and enter a semicircular canal.
When you turn your head, these misplaced crystals move with gravity and abnormally stimulate the affected canal.
The result?
👀 The brain receives an abnormal vestibular signal →
👁️ the eyes make a characteristic involuntary movement called nystagmus →
🌀 and you experience brief positional vertigo.
👁️ So how do we know which canal is involved?
This is where Videofrenzel goggles are extremely useful.
Normally, our eyes can suppress vestibular nystagmus when we fix our gaze on a target. The goggles remove this visual fixation and magnify the eye movements, making the direction and characteristics of nystagmus much easier to observe and analyse.
The pattern of nystagmus can help us determine which canal is involved and often which side.
🔄 And the treatment?
The good news is that BPPV is usually very treatable.
Repositioning manoeuvres use a carefully planned sequence of head and body movements to guide the displaced otoconia out of the semicircular canal and back toward their normal location.
Depending on the canal involved, different manoeuvres may be required — for example, the Epley manoeuvre is commonly used for posterior canal BPPV.
So, contrary to popular belief:
❌ BPPV is not simply “low BP”
❌ It is not necessarily a neck problem
❌ You don't have to live with recurrent positional vertigo
✅ Identify the canal → identify the side → observe the nystagmus → perform the appropriate repositioning manoeuvre.
And that is why not all vertigo should be treated with a generic “vertigo tablet.”
If the room spins when you turn in bed, lie down, sit up or look up, get the cause properly evaluated.

The ear drum is a very delicate structure. A hole or perforation can occur in the ear drum due to an injury like hit to the ear, road traffic accident or a blast.
Traumatic perforation should be managed as follows
1) Do not self medicate with ear drops as this disrupts the clot which is essential for spontaneous healing
2) Keep the ear dry
3) See an ENT specialist at the earliest
4) ENT specialist will ask for and audiogram to assess the hearing
5) Also will do an endoscopy of the ear to assess the extent of damage
6) Take your medication and follow all instructions
7) In majority of cases traumatic perforation heals on its own
8) Periodic follow up is essential to track the healing
9) Very rarely surgery may be required to repair the damaged ear drum

When diabetes affects your balance
Diabetes doesn’t just affect your eyes, kidneys and nerves.
It may affect your balance too. 👂🧠
Ever wondered why some people with diabetes keep experiencing vertigo, imbalance or persistent dizziness?
The inner ear is a delicate balance organ, and diabetes may affect it in several ways:
🩸 Microvascular damage → reduced blood supply to the inner ear
⚡ Oxidative stress → may damage delicate vestibular sensory cells
🧠 Neuropathy → can interfere with the way the brain integrates balance signals
🔵 Otolith dysfunction → may contribute to BPPV and imbalance
And there’s an important clinical connection:
Diabetes appears to be associated with a higher risk of BPPV, recurrent attacks, persistent dizziness and poorer postural balance.
But here’s the good news 👇
Diabetes does NOT mean that BPPV cannot be successfully treated. Canalith repositioning manoeuvres such as the Epley manoeuvre can still be effective.
So if you have diabetes and keep feeling “off balance” even after your vertigo has settled, don’t simply blame it on age—or your sugar.
Your balance system may need to be evaluated too. 🎯
Good sugar control. Good balance care. Better quality of life.
💜 Don’t ignore dizziness. Your balance deserves attention too.

🎶👂 WHEN THE VOICE OF A GENERATION SUDDENLY COULDN’T HEAR…
Singer Alka Yagnik’s experience with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) brought much-needed attention to a condition many people may not recognise. She has spoken about suddenly experiencing hearing loss and being diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss.
Her story carries an important message for all of us:
🚨 SUDDEN HEARING LOSS NEEDS SUDDEN ACTION.
If you suddenly notice that one ear has become muffled or you cannot hear properly, especially if there is ringing, fullness or dizziness, don’t simply assume it is wax or a blocked ear.
👂 Get your ear examined promptly.
🎧 Have a pure-tone audiogram as soon as possible.
🩺 If sudden sensorineural hearing loss is confirmed, treatment should not be unnecessarily delayed.
Depending on the individual patient and timing, treatment may include:
💊 Corticosteroids — often used as initial treatment
💉 Intratympanic steroid injections — steroids delivered through the eardrum into the middle ear; particularly useful as salvage treatment in selected patients
🫧 Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) — may be considered along with steroids in selected patients within the appropriate treatment window
⏰ The earlier the diagnosis and appropriate treatment, the better the opportunity for hearing recovery.
So if your ear suddenly feels “blocked”…
DON’T WAIT. GET IT CHECKED.
Because sometimes what feels like a blocked ear is actually hearing loss in disguise.
🎧 When your ear suddenly goes quiet, don’t wait for tomorrow to listen to it. ❤️
