People ask what camera I use to get that dark, cinematic look in my photos.

The truth is, it has very little to do with the camera.

For me, everything starts with lighting. I take more time finding the right composition and lighting than I do choosing camera settings or lenses. Light creates the mood, shapes the face, and tells a story. It’s the difference between a photo that simply looks aesthetic and one that makes me feel something.

Understanding light will always have a bigger impact on your photography than the quality of your camera.

If you’re learning portrait photography, stop chasing new cameras and start chasing better light.
