It’s a rare thing to get me in front of the camera, but I really loved this format and the trust that comes from a friendship I’ve shared with @slag.magic over many years.I’ve been spending a lot of time lately reflecting on what photography means to me. I didn’t expect to find myself sitting in on another photographer’s portrait session, but watching someone I deeply respect approach the process with such thoughtfulness, experimentation, and curiosity reminded me why I fell in love with the medium in the first place.It was also refreshing to get my hands on a piece of equipment that strips photography back to its essentials—a 4×5 Deardorff that asks for intention, stillness, patience, and craft. I was initially hesitant to touch another photographer’s camera or put in the mental energy to learn an unfamiliar process, but I eventually leaned into it enough to make a portrait of Colin while he experimented with new collodion formulas. I was pretty happy that one of the plates turned out for him. by @jaimiecskr
