Firstly, thanks @iszyg42 for inviting me into this wonderful community last year. I was thrilled to be invited back, and it was such a transformative experience. Working with ya is an honor, and I’m lucky to call you my friend!

Secondly to Aneesh, Andrea, and Claudia, y’all are the best. You bring such confidence with you to your work, it’s inspirational and influences those around you.

To the rest of the competition crew, y’all made the vibes happen, worked so hard and brought joy with you to each interaction. It was such a comfort to have y’all with us!

To the @detroitsymphony , the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, Maesta @silvursmiles , and the @sphinxorg : thank you for your trust in me, for your guidance, and for your excellence. Working as the stage manager for this past week is one of the greatest honors of my life, and I can’t wait to see all of you again.

Can’t wait till next year, but let’s all see each other sooner than that, yeah? Drop me a line if you roll thru Chicago.

Much much much love, Akshat by @jaintck

Butter Chicken Brass Band
Fall Tour Recap

We had the honor of performing and lecturing at @psbehrend for their @theloganseriesmusicatnoon !

Band Dinner! (We couldn't find any good spots for Butter Chicken ☹️)

At the historic @strutherslibrarytheatre !
(The 18th oldest operating theater built in 1883)

The students were awestruck hearing South Asian music for the first time. It was a blessing to share the vast culture and history with them @strutherslibrarytheatre !

Big big big thanks to everyone who came out last week to party with us! We had an absolute blast, and hope you all did as well! Much love, Tuba Force ❤️ by @jaintck

It was such a thrill performing along side the fantastic musicians of the Lyric Opera Orchestra for @joffreyballet’s production of Liliom these past two weeks. Getting to sit in the pit and perform alongside so many great musicians is always an honor! Pictured here to my left are: Will Baker, Hugo Saavedra, and Jeremy Moeller.

Short exerpt of a low brass soli moment!

Stick around to the end of this clip to hear a cute tuba solo!

A pretty good view! Even though I can’t see what’s happening on stage at all, I still think its one of the best seats in the house!

Walking up to this marquee, knowing I was going in for work, was honestly the best feeling ❤️ by @jaintck

On Aug 11th, around 11 am local time, my grandmother passed away at the age of 92. Her name was Pramila Srinivasan. The matriarch of our family, an avid devote, a loving presence, she will be dearly missed by her biological and chosen family.

Fiercely independent till the end, one of the strongest willed people you would have ever met. Survived by her daughter, son in law, and grandson: Jyotsna, Anuj, and Akshat. by @jaintck

DePaul tuba alumni sighting! Thanks to Akshat Jain for jumping in last minute to play second on Corigliano symphony #1 with the Grant Park Music Festival. World class playing as always! by @jaintck

Such a great weekend at the @grantparkmusicfestival playing Corigliano Symphony #1 with this fantastic section, and then Mozart Requiem on the second half! Quite a program! One more week to go, so come on out, still lots of great music to go!

Here’s a very simple exercise we low brass players should probably be doing more often. Throw on a drone (either the root or fifth depending on how you feel) and buzz descending fifths. It took me about a year of doing this, or similar skill building exercises, to bridge the gap in my low register buzzing. This is only one of many things you can do with low register buzzing, but I find keeping things simple helps me focus in and fully immerse myself in pitch and tone quality. Anyway, it’s not perfect of particularly interesting, it’s just about where you’re at any given day and working on getting better. Here I’ve got my OG Laskey 30H, with some sousaphone bits acting as a mini leadpipe. #tuba #practice #cellodrones by @jaintck

It’s been nice having a quiet July! It’s always nice to get a little rest and recuperation, even taking a little time off the horn. Been back on it the last week or so, and it’s so nice to come to big room after about a month and just fill out the space as much as you can. #tuba #lownotes #practice by @jaintck

Another fantastic week at the Interlochen Low Brass Intensive’s this year! It always feels like a home coming, and it’s so special to get to work right along side some of the best mentors and friends you could ask for ❤️. A year is too long to wait for another one, but I know it’ll be worth it.
