This session is a heartfelt tribute to Ajit Rai Ji, a man who dedicated his life to theatre, cinema, and everything in between. We were lucky to witness his magic and be a part of his community since years, as he has been an integral part of the festival committee. More than a mentor, he was a guiding light whose insight and encouragement shaped the spirit of the festival for almost a decade.

Join us as we celebrate his life, his vision, and his lasting impact on the theatre fraternity in India, in conversation with his friends and colleagues.

The Jairangam Festival invites to an artist’s world of practice and patience. A peek into a filmmaker’s mind where her interactions with the world, both outside and inside, converse and collide to build art of subtle meaning and purpose.

Jaipur-based filmmaker Suruchi Sharma lets in the audience to her personal artistic space embellished with memories and lessons from folk musicians, personal experiences, and exercises for creative imagination.

Following freedom and wonder in her work, the experience of Bheetar// Bahar would possibly enthrall you from the outside but also take something from within you.

Come, not in a hurry, but with an intention to linger.

Based on a story by Harishankar Parsai, it’s a satirical take on the golden era of Hindi cinema, where films were often made using the same formula — the rich man’s son falls in love with the poor man’s daughter, a villain appears to separate them, but in the end everything turns out fine, and the hero and heroine unite happily.

An evening filled with drama, music, cinema and lots of laughter...

Durga and Lakshmi, two artists - one a human, the other a sentient stereo player invite you for a feast, that soon turns into a performance of fears. Durga asks herself what epitomizes “a woman”, finally landing on the idea of a ‘Garam Roti’- the humble Indian flatbread. What starts as a personal reflection on the matter, culminates into an exercise of communal listening to rants (recordings) of women from across India. The play moves through borders of fiction into the non-fiction realm with the ‘Garam Roti Library’- an audio collection of women sharing their anecdotes, thoughts on tradition, labour and revolution.

A philosophical comedy wherein two actors wait at the Prithvi Theatre cafe to catch a show of their favourite actor, Naseeruddin Shah’s new play. But the situation is weirder than it sounds, because only one of them is entitled to a ticket, and because they are both dead! While they wait, they laugh, they cry, they compete bitterly, and reveal themselves in a desperate bid to get that elusive one ticket to the show. An actor knows how to wait like no one else does - all he desires are his moments on stage. In those moments he finds the ability to smile at his ephemeral existence.

The play is a celebration of theatre, acting, passion, and of life itself... only it is being celebrated by two dead men.
