On April 23rd, 2026, Chromas presented its first multimedia performance at the E-room at Yale’s AFAM center, exploring tempo expressivity and how musicians bend time to shape meaning.

Produced by creative director @jairusrhoades , with a reactive time engine he designed and programmed. Shoutout to @pabloamolano and @lucasmusicks for rehearsing our amazing musicians and traveling with them to make this possible!

What better way to start posting than to share about our very first concert in SIX DAYS! We are so thrilled to have Kaleb Zhu, Music Director and Conductor of the ensemble open our season with an amazing night of Prokofiev, Stravinsky, and Mozart! Many thanks to Pablo Molano, founder and Artistic Director of the Ensemble, and Jairus Rhoades, Ensemble Manager for putting this night together! The wildfires that have ravaged parts of upper west Maui continue to affect thousands of families. I hope that through introducing a platform like Stashrun that people (especially those that have benefited from the islands through tourism) will continue to be aware of the impacts of this event. Yes, it’s a small 50 dollar goal - but it’s one that people can fund without contributing any money whatsoever because of the way Stashrun works.
It’s also one of many goals that I hope become initiated across campus’s like ones at Yale and abroad, where ideas and awareness issues are constantly being exchanged.
Take the time to play the mini game to fund my goal for free, spread the word of Maui wildfires and Stashrun, and those affected would benefit greatly. by @jairusrhoades

This is for Erin, someone who I’ve grown up with that I will always admire! It’s her birthday, and i wanted to start actually posting instead of flooding my stories🥲. Erinishi and I have played music together since we were toddlers with the type of Hawaii parents that would enter their literal freshly born babies into piano competitions (she still is a boss at the piano as you can see in the Siliman common room vid), and we would always be mindful of each other presence before middle school. I was terrified of this 8 year old girl that could play piano and violin so well and that fear of her morphed into an awe and inspiration to be a better person and musician as we grew up getting closer and closer to each other, laughing over stories about iconic old Asian ladies of the Oahu music community or cram practicing a piece in one day for a performance. She would always study at Montague in the quiet of the courtyard and the rustling of that giant monkey pod trees and shed never fail to give me some sort of rlly well made food before we would take a practice room and goof around playing sonatas (while making videos that we would still laugh to and show our friends today 😅) before rushing to our next classes. Erin managed the music club way better than I did when she graduated and passed it down to the rising seniors at Puns, and her legacy of the famous 魚 lives on on Hawaii white boards. Whenever we would hang out she would continue to just wow me cuz she still carried herself in such a graceful and badass way, whether it be through managing a hectic day of performances or ordering something from the H mart food court. She also really knows how to make someone feel good and how to help them get thru rough times . I am so excited and honored to have watched her do what she does to this day, now as college students! I love her very very much and I am so proud to call her my friend :). go flood her inbox with love and birthday wishes. Happy birthday Erin! taken in Nishi by @jairusrhoades

Late by two weeks….

First and last Holoku!!! Sorta somber but I’m so happy I went head first and tried to do as much as I could during this time even though I missed like a month of practice from #travelling😩 (BDD def worth missing all the gym rehearsals Ngl). Got to know so many awesome people in the Kahiko, Samoan, couples, and Kahili Bearer dances… Shout out to Aunty Lori for the awesome spray apparatus I def enjoyed spraying all da plants before the shows 🤩. Also Ngl kāhīko is best dance Srry couldn’t tag everyone by @jairusrhoades

Last week I took part in a really special evening with friends, family, and teachers that I'll always cherish wherever I go. It was an evening memorable not just for the great music played, but for its really supportive and youthful atmosphere unlike any other concert any of us will give -- the audience made signs and bought lei and flowers even for a certain legendary page-turner--and it makes me so grateful for everything given to me. I learned so much about different performance AND accompanying dynamics (ty Bao 😩 for all the fun drives to and from rehearsal), how to have good pre-concert ipad charging habits (which fortunately was so bad that it gave me another reason to put Noah, the sexy page turner of the century, on the stage when I accompanied Bao) and how to navigate a huge crowd of lei-bearing supporters. I can't emphasize how much my friends and family's unrestrained hollering and cheering made this night one of the most positive musical experiences a budding student-musician can ask for; regardless of where any of our musical careers will take us, we will always remember that Punahou's unique sense or community will never stray away. Congrats to Ellie, Christian, Christine, and Bao for their awesome playing-- it was an honor to play alongside you guys!!! Special thanks to @duanepictures for all of his hard work, useful performance (and college 👀) advice, and enthusiasm in the production of this concert; your help has brought me so far in the past year!! No other senior night can compare to this one ♥️! taken in Punahou School by @jairusrhoades
