Mule Taqueria Bar
Photos by @mikeparlapiano
Built by @kohnstruct @bakerfabrication_surfcoast @bakerconcreteco @imagekitchens @sustainablesparky
Landscaping by @moonah_landscaping

The third image shows the existing conditions of Mule 12 months ago - a 37 square-metre brick building in the heart of Torquay village. Our main focus was to retain as much of the existing conditions as possible, driven partly by the tight budget when renovating a leased property. The brief was to try to create a space which captures the afternoon sun, which forms a bustling hub to service and feed the community. Centred around an outdoor fireplace, Mule highlights the preparation and experience of Mexican dining. by @jak_architecture

On Wadawurrung Country in Torquay, Victoria, Mule breathes new life into an existing building, bringing modern Mexican dining and an open fire to the Surf Coast. The materials are solid and hardwearing. With the palette being warm and welcoming that plays off the vibrancy of Mexican food. With long, cold winters on the coast, we designed Mule to be an all-seasons cosy taqueria - the outdoor space shifting easily between summer and winter. Mule is our first hospitality project, and it was so nice to do it with an amazing group of friends, who are all so genuinely passionate about what they do. by @jak_architecture

Cathedral House
Photos by @tashatylee - styled by @sylv_iiiiie
Built by @hedgerconstructions

On Taungurung Country in Thornton, Victoria, Cathedral House is designed for low-maintenance living in harmony with the surrounding landscape. The home overlooks the Cathedral Ranges and sits within a fire-prone region - a consideration that drove the material selection and construction approach throughout. by @jak_architecture
