Have you ever felt like you didn’t know what to pray or like you didn’t necessarily want to pray? I wrote about that experience in a way that I hope is genuinely helpful and refreshing.

Please give the poem a listen all the way through, and if it resonates with you, I’d really appreciate you sharing it and helping others find encouragement from this 🙏🏼

One of the best parts of faith is that we get to walk this road with other people. by @jakedaghe

Hello!

I’m Jake Daghe. Thanks for stopping in here and looking around.

I’m an author, curator, and editor.

I love what I get to do and I love getting to help people grow in their faith, especially those who need to hear that they can keep going and that there is hope on the horizon.

I’ve got a few books out on Amazon and some more projects on the way. I share occasionally essays and thoughts on “The Baptized Mind” on Substack.

I’d be honored to have you follow along and I pray that something here nourishes your soul, feeds your mind, and speaks to your heart.

This post has some quotes and ideas that will stop you in your tracks.

R.F. Kuang's Katabasis has a passage on a civilization convinced it's the most decadent generation yet, too busy quibbling to notice it's forgotten how to think. I didn't actually love the book itself, but that line really stood out to me (and might have been the whole point why I read that book).

I paired it here with Eugene Peterson on pastors who talk too much and listen too little, and Jeremiah's prayer to be corrected in justice, not in anger.

This collection closes on Francis Bacon, writing four hundred years ago that doubt, patiently carried, isn't faithlessness — it's often the prerequisite for a living faith. by @jakedaghe

Six small course corrections from Year 11.

Nothing enormous in this post — no single knockout quote — but that's honestly the more accurate picture of how most of my learning actually happens. Eugene Peterson on being a saint in the basics. A line on the "long fetch" behind every wave, which reminds me weekly that what shows up today started somewhere years back.

I firmly believe our lives are often shaped by the small adjustments we make, and that consistent effort over time can create an amazing, compounding effect.

Sometimes the learning tidbit isn't the lightning bolt. Not every day is a mountaintop experience. More often than not, it's just showing up. It's leaning into the process. It's listening when you feel the nudge. by @jakedaghe

Did you know that our faith often grows strongest in bad weather?

This collection of tidbits opens with the Spurgeon passage on trials that I come back to more than almost anything else in the whole Vault - "tempests as trainers, lightnings as illuminators."

Everything else here is smaller in scale but the same shape: character that shows up in the gait of your life, revival that flows into riverbeds already prepared.

If nothing's testing your faith right now, this post will be something good to store away for that day when your feet are in the fire.

If you are in a fight, this collection is for you.

Also - please go check out a poem about the Carpathia by Becky Schwarz on substack called "Two Days of Coal." One of the best things I've read in a long time. by @jakedaghe

Learning is the theme of this one, starting with a passage from The Goldfinch that I've never been able to shake: "What do you do when your own heart can't be trusted?"

More from Cormac McCarthy, Ben Palpant on writing toward kairos instead of the clock, and a drop-cap slide I had fun building: Augustine into Spurgeon, on the trifles God multiplies because He sees what they'll become.

A bundle of things that marked me and that I thought were worth carrying forward from the last year. by @jakedaghe

Post 02 of Year 11 Retrospective, and this one starts with a BIG quote from Dee Hock, founder of VISA, that I split into two cards.

He says the most important job of anyone who manages anything is to manage yourself first. That one rearranged some furniture in my head.

Paired here with Madeleine L'Engle on what our work is actually for, and a line from a friend in ministry that I haven't stopped thinking about: what's the cost of not doing this?

Five tidbits, connected in one thread. These quotes and ideas challenged me to embrace the long, unglamorous work that comes with becoming who you actually are. by @jakedaghe

POST 01 - Five things I didn't want to lose from Year 11 of the Learning Vault.

A little bit of everything in this one... Wendell Berry on joy despite the facts, R.C. Sproul on God's patience, and David Gate's words on community that I still think about most weeks. That's kind of the whole point of this archive: it's not curated by topic; it's curated by what actually stopped me.

Save the one that gets you. And drop a comment on what you can't stop thinking about from the last few weeks! I'd love to learn from you. by @jakedaghe

Here's exactly what's coming, so you know what to expect.

Year 11 Retrospective is my top 52 tidbits from the last year of curation — August 2025 to August 2026 — split across 10 posts, 5 or 6 tidbits each. Every one carries its own catalog number (its place in the whole archive) and a category tag, so you can see how it fits into the bigger picture.

A few ways to make this more than a scroll:
#1 -- save the ones that stick
#2 -- reply with a tidbit of your own — I'd love to learn from you too
#3 -- repost and tag me.
#4 -- follow along here and on Substack ("The Baptized Mind"), where I'll dig a little deeper into some of these.

Starting October 1.

Share the news & repost so other people can get in on the goodness. by @jakedaghe
