When I said I took two weeks off to celebrate my 30th birthday “and heal,” a lover asked what exactly I was healing from — and I didn’t have a clear answer.

In October 2025, I had a seizure while running errands in Park Slope. The brain scans came back normal, so neurologists blame over-caffeination, dehydration, sleep exhaustion, and chronic stress.

In hindsight, I never gave myself time to process the seizure, what I call The Incident™️. The day after I left the hospital, I was back in the office for client onboarding calls… No one asked me to do that,
my priorities were out of whack.

Since then, I’ve been confronted with my own mortality. Death has felt closer — in my personal life, and in the news, on a genocidal level. My therapist morbidly said, “being an adult is being confronted with death,” and I think there’s some truth to that.

Right after The Incident, there was a stretch where I was celebrating like each day was my last, living like I was dying. Now I’m just trying to live, more healthily, more balanced.

And apologies if you caught me on a night I was an ecstatic, messy b*tch 😅

“Salus per Aquam,” my “new year concept” for 2026, means “healing through water.” I recently got it tattooed on my left collarbone, fully committed to the bit.

I’ve been joking this time off is my version of “GTL” — gym, tan, laundry — but in practice, it’s been running on warmer days, power vinyasa, long hours in saunas and steam rooms, hot tubs, cold plunges, massages, and finally tending to all the less glamorous Jake to-dos that slipped to the back burner.

If the body keeps the score, I’m trying to track points of power.

I’m grateful for the reset — for time to be still, especially around the Spring Equinox 🌱 For casting spells off the top of the Empire State Building, for dancing like a maniac at Battle Hymn, for reconnecting with old friends, for tall Eastern European men, for diamond necklaces, for the privilege of moving slowly in the fastest, craziest city in the world, for forgiveness, for the best that’s yet to come, for my very (very, very) full life. taken in Empire State Building by @jakefrisbie

You are present. You are more you than you’ve ever been. You wake up rested, refreshed, anticipating a busy day but knowing you have the talent, the aptitude, to meet every item, skillfully, stylishly. You prepare coffee, and move through morning rituals mindfully, setting a tone of calmness to carry you through the day. At the gym, you exercise your body, witness your strength and flexibility, and demonstrate your capacity for focus. You shower and once clean, adorn your body with luxurious crèmes and perfumes. You dress in clothes that make you look proud, like you feel. Your workday consists of planning, actioning and evaluating programs that excite you alongside a creative bunch of colleagues who challenge you to produce your best work, but just as easily, affirm your value and contributions. You have a healthy lunch somewhere near the office and on your brief walk there, remember you’re living and working in the greatest city in the world. Deadlines are met (or reasonably renegotiated) and you head to happy hour to meet friends. After the workday debrief and a second martini, you share intimate details about future plans, you ask questions where insight may be needed and your friends provide support enthusiastically. Conversation becomes light-hearted again, and you move to another location — somewhere new, trendy, exclusive. Under the low lights, you see something, meet someone, (etc.) that reminds you the world is wide, your potential, life’s potential is endless. You return home inspired but drowsy and begin to prepare for bed. You sleep deeply, to meet another beautiful day tomorrow, again. This is your life. #yourperfectday by @jakefrisbie

So bummed I lost all of my photos from my trip to Hawaii in March for Bday so lesson learned, post the damn Instagram. I don’t know how content creators do it, this is exhausting I’ve been at it for like, two hours. Okay anyway, highlights of London:

1. Seeing @pva_are_ok my first night, dancing in the company of musical genius. Y’all are sweethearts, see you in New York. Shoutout Freddie, you angel 👼
2. Falling in love with an International lawyer who knows which way is up and how to put it down. Woof 🐺
3. Drinks with Publicis colleagues, Pippa darling and my friend Sydney 🥂✨
4. Casting spells off the Seven Sisters Cliffs, a dream IS a wish your heart makes. I cried. No one knows I’m wearing Acne Studios at The Beachy Head. A car crash that resulted in one of the most cinematic moments of my life 🌅
5. Crying in Westminster Abbey to the most tender, beautiful music I’ve ever heard. Followed by a lot of Pet Shop Boys 🎶

I can say with certitude that I’ll never do an English breakfast again but London, I will be back. It’s in my blood #relaxwithanotter taken in Eagle London by @jakefrisbie

Okay, caption’s too long so here’s the abridged version;

Now that Pride Month is over (Lol) I am here to remind you that not all Queer love is rainbows and butterflies. Sometimes we give a lot of love to people who’re only going to take it

It took me way too long to complete this piece… As I began to think through the logistics of the work, I found I couldn’t create with the same fervor I could in the past. I’ve always questioned whether my work was contributing anything to society, wondered if I was romanticizing my abuse, but perhaps more importantly than anything else, I began to realize that making a slapstick video art piece wasn’t going to ‘heal’ me anymore…

Y’all, I am not trying to trauma dump on you, that’s never been my MO. As an artist, I’ve always tried to shine light on the stories everyone’s too ashamed to tell, to normalize messy Queer realities. To turn convention upside down, to make you wonder – who is the bad guy? This subversion is Queer Mischief 101 and it’s what makes it so supercalifragilelyfun to be an artist

HOWEVER

Something has changed within me (yes, that was on purpose) – I want to make work about how we’re able to transform despite our circumstances, how we love and move like water, I want to represent our limitless capacity for dreaming, our contradictions too. I feel so far away from this piece because mourning fuckboyz is no longer a part of my agenda, YOU are. Time has changed everything, and I needed it

SAUR, I don’t know what my work will look like in the future but I know it’s going to look and ~feel~ very different from this…

Anyway, on this day of Independence, I give you “Caretaker”

My piece in the @artsgowanus ROOTED IN PRIDE exhibition at Washington Park in Park Slope 🧿 “I take pride in our collective potential, in the possibilities our joy wields. Our liberation demands our imagination’s full utility – my work represents a commitment to our dreaming, our pleasure and the fabric of our multitudes. I take pride in our becoming.” taken in Park Slope by @jakefrisbie
