rest in peace grouch, i love you and will miss you dearly. i know you’re already up there causing a ruckus, winning all the jackpots you were owed, dancing with grandpa nichols, laughing with uncle scott... until we meet again... ❤️‍🩹

as far back as i can remember, you have been a constant in my life. my great grandmother, or as many of you know her, “grandma grouch.” a nickname given to her by her grandkids, thanks to her slick one liners and her dark and dirty sense of humor.

but, you were anything but a grouch. you were a warm, loving, generous person with a massive heart. you had a way of lighting up a room and making anyone laugh until their stomach hurt. you found positivity in any and every situation. you taught me so much about how laughter can get you through absolutely anything in life. you taught me what it looks like to truly love and care for people.

people say you’re lucky if you get to meet your grandparents, so to try and express in words how grateful i am to have met a great-grandparent of mine is nearly impossible. our bond was so strong. you never missed a football game of mine. we always called to check up on each other. you were ALWAYS there for me and for everyone in our family.

when you were diagnosed with alzheimer’s, i knew my time left with you on this earth was limited and i told myself i’d always be there to take care of you. i will miss babysitting you. sitting on your couch with you and talking about whatever came to your mind. our music video binge-watches while drinking chocolate milkshakes. so many things. i’ll even miss the harder days when it really got to you, because even then, it was never a burden to take care of you. it was always an honor to give back to you what you always gave to me. by @jakeharkey
