A bit of a work update! I recently started part-time over @oldbloodnoise taking on an HR generalist role. I’m way excited about this opportunity, and stoked to contribute to help build something beautiful.

I will still be behind the chair 3 days a week, but not take as active role in managing the day to day of @capital_city_ok

Huge thanks to @susanily_ for stepping up
And taking on the challenge in this time of transition. taken in Old Blood Noise Endeavors by @jakelahoma

Peter/ 2015/ 📸 @justicesmithers

I remember just opening @capital_city_ok and the short sides, and long top “madmen” type looks were full tilt. It was a fun trend in mens hair, but like most trends, once taken to the extreme, that trend dies out. The culmination of Brad pitts haircut in furry, the “top knot”, and the ending of madmen felt like the trend had peaked.

There was an off putting arrogance that sometimes came with the clients that wanted the most extreme version of that trend. Most clients, you can tell when they have a gust of self confidence after a good hair cut, that is common, and is a good thing. Its one of the things about what I do that makes my job great. And to be fair, there are lots of short barbered haircuts that look great on lots of dudes, and there ego isn’t tied to a trend.

But that’s not what I’m getting at.

Maybe it was a mix of things, in 2015 money felt easy, oil and gas still felt untouchable, lots of hip new places to eat and drink, the wind felt as if it was at our backs.

When Justice and I took this photo, I wanted it to be the antithesis of the most extreme thing everyone was asking for in 2015.
I wanted to challenge the guy who’s bald fade and hard part was so tied to his ego, that it was really just a flag of insecurity.

Here’s the kicker. I had taken the time to find a model, cut his hair, for free, think through a concept for the shoot…all the things that go into taking a great photo…and never showed anyone. I never shared it. Not even my hair friends. Why? Why would I go through the time and labor of creating something that I’m really proud of, to never show it off?

Insecurity.

I remember not posting out of a fear of not being not accepted by the very crowd I was trying to challenge. It’s funny how insecurity can cause us to over compensate, and or drive us to non-action.

Anyway, 🤷🏼‍♂️
here’s a photo I’m really proud of.
