What a time to be alive. So proud to be in this union. To have walked alongside so many people that gave nearly everything to ensure a viable career for all of us, present and future. There’s still a long way to go, a long and meaningful fight ahead to carve a fair and equitable path forward for EVERYONE in Hollywood, but this feels like the beginning of a better world. In 2018, I went to see INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE at our local theater in Chapel Hill, NC. I left the theater awed and inspired by what I had seen, but what hit me the hardest is a conversation I heard between a little Black kid and his father as I was walking out.

“Daddy, that was me!”

I went to my car and wept tears of joy for what felt like an eternity. A little Black boy would be able to grow up different than I, and millions of Black boys like me, had: with a superhero that looked and acted just like them.

I had a new goal in mind. A new path for my life. I wanted to create something that would elicit that same reaction for other kids like him. Four years later, the inimitable @kwamealexander and @mfdamani let me in to their world to do just that. An absolute honor and ultimate privilege to have had a hand in creating such a beautiful story. Black excellence personified in front and behind the camera.
