This coming Monday, we have a huge double bill of interstate and international artists, including New Zealand’s JAKE BAXENDALE with his project WAYPEOPLE! Jake Baxendale - woodwinds
Chelsea Prastiti - voice
Jia Ling “Jessie” - guzheng
Luke Sweeting - piano
Maximilian Alduca - double bass
Tim Geldens - drums Wellington-based saxophonist and composer Jake Baxendale brings together a remarkable collective of Aotearoa and Australia’s leading jazz and contemporary musicians for Waypeople, a luminous new album inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s English-language version of the Tao Te Ching. Drawing from jazz, Chinese classical music and improvisation, the project fuses lyrical storytelling with meditative textures and powerful ensemble interplay. Featuring Chelsea Prastiti (voice), Jia Ling “Jessie” (guzheng), Jake Baxendale (woodwinds), Luke Sweeting (piano), Maximillian Alduca (double bass) and Tim Geldens (drums), Waypeople transforms the timeless Taoist philosophy of harmony, balance, and paradox into sound. The result is a work of shimmering beauty — grounded in jazz but alive with the rhythm of ancient poetry and the pulse of contemporary life. by @jakesaxendale

From a gifted copy of Ursula K. Le Guin’s translation of the Tao Te Ching to a nationwide tour and a new album, Waypeople marks the culmination of years of creative exploration for saxophonist and composer Jake Baxendale.  Supported through the Creative Fellowship Fund and Creative Impact Fund, Jake was able to dedicate time and space to develop, record and release the project.  Drawing on themes of mystery, stillness, society, denouncement of war and violence, Waypeople reflects a meeting point of place, philosophy and people.  Read more at the link in our bio. #Waypeople #JakeBaxendale #NZComposer by @jakesaxendale
Big old photo & video dump of the Waypeople NZ tour, unedited, out of order and missing all the vital people behind the scenes, but you can feel the love! If you were at one of these gigs and have some good pics or footage I’d love to see it. Ngā mihi nui to all these wonderful artists, venues and audiences, it was a special time. by @jakesaxendale
