We’re so excited to announce our 2026 Spring poetry collections! With gorgeous covers designed by Andrew Roberts, we are proud to introduce this new design direction for M&S poetry, and to showcase the work of these three brilliant poets.

Two-time Trillium Book Award finalist Laurie D. Graham brings us CALLING IT BACK TO ME, a personal collection of familial history and memory.

From Griffin Prize winner Kaie Kellough, we have INTERPOSITION—a long poem that examines desire and technology.

HORSES is Navajo Nation Poet Laureate Jake Skeets’ poignant collection tracking the impacts of climate change on the land and people of the Navajo Nation.

Available for preorder now, all three collections will be available on March 24th! by @jakeskeets

In honour of tomorrow’s National Poetry Day, we are delighted to reveal the cover for our first poetry collection, Horses by Jake Skeets.

The landscape of the Navajo Nation is undergoing dramatic changes. In 2018, 191 wild horses were discovered dead in a stock pond near Gray Mountain, trapped thigh-and-neck-deep in mud, piled on top of each other. Inspired by this tragedy, Skeets embarks on a harrowing meditation on the suffering of wildlife and the oppression of indigenous people for generations. Horses is an electric response to the climate crisis faced by this region and beyond.

‘Skeets is a new, essential voice in poetry, in literature.’ Tommy Orange

Exclusive cover reveal for Jake Skeet's
highly anticipated forthcoming collection, HORSES,
coming from @milkweed_books on 3/24!

"Behind these poems is a reverberation
of horse songs echoing, holding tight
at the borders. Grief is a primary material,
here rendered into beauty, and as you listen
you will hear, feel, and know that beauty
is possible even when it appears impossible.
An astounding book."-Joy Harjo

A few lines from my poem “Opening Light.” The word “everlasting” is a word that comes up often in the poetry the late Rex Lee Jim. This video was shot in Oxford, Mississippi and I felt so much comfort reading his work while so far away from home. Read the full poem in my second book, Horses. by @jakeskeets

The final lines from my ekphrastic poem “On Rain or Light or Joy.” The poem is a response to Sky Hopinka’s tribute to Diane Burns, titled “I’ll Remember You as You Were, Not as What You’ll Become” and borrows text by Burns. Read the full text in MoMA Magazine or my second book Horses. by @jakeskeets

What the fuck do you know about sky?

Goodbye Summer, until next year. Now, I slink back into the slumps of yet another eternal dark where ghouls and slippery souls fester on what was our joy. To fall. To winter. To renewal. To the night. It beckons. I beckon. The sky does, too. by @jakeskeets

What news to wake up to this morning. I was half-asleep trying to make sense of what was happening. It’s truly an honor to share space with so many great poets and their beautiful books. Horses was an interesting book to write and I still have more to say, especially as climate change continues to impact all of us. The Navajo Nation is undergoing change right now with black bears coming down from the mountain, bark beetles killing off pine trees, and flash flooding disrupting so much of daily life. I’m so grateful that this story is among all these stories in this list. What a wild time, truly wild. Much thanks to my editors @mspeaker @canisia.lubrin @charlottegromba and all the wonderful mentors that have helped shape this book! by @jakeskeets

I was living my Changing Woman fantasy on the beach over Labor Day weekend and now I make the long trek back to Albuquerque. I’m sunburned, tired, but relaxed. I needed the beach, -each, finally caught a wave, they say, what did they say, had a drink, clink, found a bud light. Bad bitches like me is hard to come by. by @jakeskeets

I trudge through the discomforts of the world because they bring me to my one true comfort: butchering a sheep with my family back home, catching this Rez dog eating a pizza slice, and seeing a rainbow on the drive back to the city. I know I’m often not poet enough, not cool enough, not Navajo enough, not man enough, not grateful enough, not humble enough, not confident enough, etc, etc but I’m at least hungry enough to trudge through all the discomforts of the world because I know it’ll be worth it at the end and I’ll be back home. by @jakeskeets
