Julian-Jakob Kneer’s solo show in Cologne is on view until October 17th.

For DC Open (Düsseldorf Cologne Open Galleries), GUSCH @guschcologne presents its second exhibition, a solo presentation by Julian-Jakob Kneer. Thirty individually painted leather skins come together as one walkable floor — first perceived as a single surface, then gradually revealing themselves as separate panels treated with pigment, alcohol, sweat, perfume and grease. Each skin is unique, carrying a debossed edition number as well as its own scratches and scars.

Through crossbreeding ready-made opposing narratives, Kneer’s practice riffs on themes of morality and desire. Inexorably returning to the foundational principles of the human psyche and the gamification of the human experience, he digs up and confronts our conceptions of supposed socio-cultural binaries such as right/wrong, beautiful/ugly, sick/healthy. Kneer breaks them down into their constituent parts, and releases them for recasting in a value-free queer space. He refuses immorality and morality, but instead adopts a stance of “non-morality”. With a fraudulent art world filled with artists who demand that you adhere to their personal viewpoints, Kneer is opting for aesthetic and ideological ambiguity. - Adam Lehrer

Thomas Liu Le Lann is in Mexico on view @spielzeug.nyc as part of the group show "Reiterinnenstandbilder" at @casatabasco_cdmx

Reiterinnenstandbilder is the feminine form of the outrageously long German compound word for equestrian statuary: military-leaning statues of men riding horses, brandishing guns, swords, and other phallic substitutes. Staged at Casa de Tabasco (@casatabasco_cdmx), a palatial Porfirian house built by Manuel Gorozpe in 1902, this exhibition explores the choreography by which artworks develop meaning through failing to fulfill expectations of architectural and artistic monumentality.

Congratulations to @ser_sera at @koelnischerkunstverein

Ser Serpas – sonderbare Tage
4.9.–13.12.2026

In Serpas’s exhibitions, one medium is often given the leading role, though always in the company of other art forms. If most recently it was her paintings of bodies, accompanied by performance, at the Kölnischer Kunstverein she turns onto new routes: installation and video. Everything remains interwoven and in motion; nothing disappears entirely. Painting, too, persists in her Cologne exhibition. It now appears on a gigantic curtain that acts as backdrop and spatial divide, its surface marked by traces of colour. Her focus on film, meanwhile, takes shape in the videos and spatial settings developed for the exhibition, functioning like sets for different scenarios, drawing us into their atmospheres.

Alongside The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the exhibition is haunted by the atmosphere of the science-fiction film Strange Days (1995), the survival horror The Descent (2005), and the zombie epic Train to Busan (2016). Almost all of them are set in the past and look towards a future that has already become the past. Through these filmic references, Serpas makes leaps through time: the dark premonitions of these films seep into the reality of the present. (…)

Interview mit Lukas Jakob @lukas.jakob über seine Sammlung @jakob_collection im Collectors Magazin von Frühwerk.

https://frueh-werk.de/lukas-jakob-collector/

https://www.sammlung-jakob.de/sammlung

New podcast with @jungefreundestaatsgalerie for @staatsgalerie.stuttgart with @biancawalf

Collecting art at 18? For Lukas Jakob, that’s exactly where it all began. Today, he is one of Germany’s youngest art collectors. His collection revolves around antiheroes, fragile identities, and the issues of his generation—while always telling us something about himself, too.
In the new episode of Kunst im Ohr, we talk about why he is fascinated by the failure and vulnerability of characters, how an art collection actually evolves, and why you don’t need a big budget to get started.

🎧 Find the latest episode with Lukas Jakob, as well as more fascinating guests, on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Ser Serpas is on view at Contemporary Art Gallery Vancouver.

Across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and poetry, Ser Serpas engages with the transient and residual. Performance is central to her wide-ranging practice, with her works manifesting the energy of their creation in unstable and improvised forms. Her paintings, in particular, both depict and are formed by physical distress, their surfaces characterized by a sense of generative deterioration and a deteriorating generation. At the Contemporary Art Gallery, Serpas exhibits a suite of new large-scale paintings: sets of mirroring images made by imprinting or “kissing” one canvas to another while still wet. In contrast to the fleshy portraits in painterly fields for which she is known, these paintings feature a more greyscale palette, dissolving their figures into voids of stained canvas. Flirting in the exhibition’s title with “rent boys” or sex workers, Serpas contends here with the movement of bodies within the narrowing spaces – both public and private – of the contemporary city.
