Here are some impressions of the three concerts with my "Jakob Helling Concert Big Band" together with the one and only Fay Claassen (@fayclaassen) that took place a few weeks ago. This collaboration was definitely a dream come true and I am thrilled that it turned out so much fun!
I am incredibly thankful for the incredible playing of every single musician – they really took my ideas to another space.
The concerts took place in various settings: one in a small town Jazzclub (@jazzclubluebbecke), one open air in front of a church of a small village and one at Jazzclub Unterfahrt Munich (@jazzclub_unterfahrt).
Also we didn’t use an old rented bus as planned but a LOT of bahnbonus-points – (thanks again for the investment guys ;) )

Really looking forward to record an album in the end of August at Konzerthausstudio in Vienna end then play a concert on September 1st at @porgyandbessvienna !

OPEN ATELIER - Occasionally I get requests for lessons - mostly it’s about composing / arranging. But also about trumpet or piano. So I thought I’d offer a few days where anyone can just grab a slot and come to my Atelier (online is also possible). First Dates that I offer are October 21st and November 3rd. Let me know, if you’d like a specific date.. Link to slots in bio taken in Vienna, Austria by @jakobhelling

Cologne Jazzweek appreciation post

Had a mega beautiful time on the @colognejazzweek

Heard some incredible music, met old and made new friends.

Sad to leave (and that I obviously missed some GREAT concerts anyway…) but my heart is full, the plan to tank inspiration totally worked out :P

Another little snippet of a chorale that I wrote for my new ensemble GLOW.

There are so many tough things in life – emotionally, socially, politically – I try to create a counterpart with this musical investigation.

Come witness the first concert of this band on Monday, September 14 @reaktor_wien, 8pm.

In this clip @beate_wiesinger can rest, so it's @mattsax_halpin @aloiseberl and myself. taken in Wien, Austria by @jakobhelling

GLOW

Here's another small snippet of our new ensemble GLOW.

Come hear us live at @reaktor_wien Vienna, Monday, September 14th 2026, 20:00

I tried to book this band for december last year, that didn’t happen, so I'm even more excited, that we'll get to play our first concert today in one month!
The initial idea was, that the music and the ensemble is really ment to play in church-like rooms. Maybe because I spend a lot of my childhood in the church where my parents used to play music and preach..
So this is my attempt to play in churches and big spaces again, but with my own music.

Alois Eberl - trombone @aloiseberl
Beate Wiesinger - double bass @beate_wiesinger
Jakob Helling - composition & valve trombone @jakobhelling
Matthew Halpin - tenor sax @mattsax_halpin

I just got Vinyls and CDs of Jim Rotondis FINESSE - and - we‘ll play two nights at Jazzland Vienna with the NOTES AND TONES JAZZ ORCHESTRA by @danielnoesig and @mariogonzi remembering the great trumpeter, composer Jim Rotondi who left us far too soon. Concerts are June 5 & 6 - so mark your calendars. Shoutout to @cellarlive and @coryweeds for sending the records over from Canada in no time! If you’re not in Vienna but wanna have a record (and save shipping costs from Canada 🍁…) leave me a message. #jimrotondi by @jakobhelling

I got a new homepage! There’s all kinds of stuff, but what is really new is a shop that I’ll slowly fill with free scores - as well as scores and parts to purchase. Thanks to @artist.websites for their help! #artistwebsites jakobhelling.com by @jakobhelling
