My mom used to complain so much when I was growing up. She would say “You don’t read on the bed, you read on a table”.

I still don’t find it comfortable reading on a table. I prefer to read laying down.

JUNE 2026

Yesterday, I had a conversation with my friend where I told him “I’m really FUNNY”. He begged to differ “You’re definitely not funny. You can’t crack a joke. You’re absolutely not funny”.

I’m FUNNY. Not because you think so but because I think I am. If you know me, deep down you’ll remember how funny I am.

The first half of 2026 is over and looking back at my month, I have the most random memories. Mr Eazi giving wine recommendations, having Maryland cookies for the first time in a really long time, Whatsapp annoying me because it keeps saying my phone storage has run out, my baby turned two and we did a huge giveaway, visited ORCA, Read the African Trilogy by Achebe, Had an ice cream date and a bunch of other things.

I love that I don’t take things too seriously anymore. What’s a random June memory you have ?

I’m a little late to the conversation but here are some interior design trends I’m excited to see in Nigerian interiors this year.

Personally I’m so over the generic copy and paste interiors we see all over social media. Let’s bring personality back into our homes.

I met up with my 7 year old self

We sat at a cute cafe and ordered some ice cream. I wore a two piece set. She wore a denim cover all. Her hair was neatly done. Mine was a fro.

We sat speechless for a second smiling at each other. I had Agbalumo flavor while she had chocolate.

I asked how she had been and she responded with the usual “I’m fine!”.

She asked how I was and I told her I was so much better now. We reminisced the past, spoke about how we still enjoy biscuits, how I no longer liked formal school and how I still fidget. We spoke about how she was going to have a brother in 3 years.

She asked if I was living her dreams and I responded in the affirmative. I told her how I now run my own business, how I still want to learn to draw but I paint pretty well now. I told her mum is really old now but she’s still the cooler parent and how dad still would like me to get a PhD. I told her I became an engineer but I ditched that world to pursue design.

She asked if I designed my outfit and I proudly said “YES!”. She asked if I finally made some friends and I said “YES, I have a small but loving circle of the best people I could do life with”.

She told me about her love for phonetics and how everyone makes fun of her voice. I told her that she shouldn’t mind them because her diction and her voice will become her super power.

I told her that I designed spaces and created artworks and she was so proud. I still love to illustrate clothes but I play dress up less frequently. I told her she would barely remember her classmates but she should make sure to be kind and leave a lasting impression.

I told her she was really beautiful and that her smile will warm many hearts. I told her she’ll struggle a little bit but she’ll learn so much and know herself so much better.

She wished me happy birthday and I wished her same. We promised to meet up again when I turn 30 and compare notes because we still love to write.

As we stood up, we held hands and I shed a tear. I watched the little girl who was me look at me with so much pride. I looked at her with so much love. She reminded me that while we don’t have everything figured out but We have enough. by @jakthename

June was a sweet sweet one.

The one where my girl turned 30, the one where I bought suya, the one where I had the loveliest English breakfast, the one where I reminded myself to follow my passion with love and tenderness, the one where I fell in love with the Bear, the one where Pinterest knows what I love most. The one where we had to wait for the train to pass, the one where I created art for my business.

It was a quiet, cute month. I had nice doses of fun.

I really like the picture in the last slide. She looks a lot like me.

It’s so amusing to me how hard it is for me to post pictures here or anywhere else.

An online friend of mine literally had to beg me to send something so we do not see each other on the road and he can’t tell that it’s me.

I guess life is like that sometimes. I like these pictures. They’re a reminder to enjoy the little things. ART and enjoy the big things too ART.

I made a short stop to @sotogallery sometime last month and as usual I had a lovely time.
