A website project with me isn’t about handing me a list of pages and telling me exactly how you want everything designed. Of course your vision matters. But my job is to take that vision and work out how it should actually translate online. I start with where your brand is now, where it’s going, and what the website needs to do in between. Then I plan it. From the customer shopping journey, the storytelling order, the sections worth including. The things a new visitor needs to understand before they’re ready to trust, buy or subscribe. So by the time we get to the build, I’m not starting from a blank page and hoping inspiration strikes. The thinking had already happened. You guys see the websites I’ve built. But JAL Studios started way before I had clients around the world, or a portfolio I was proud to show. Before this I was working part time in retail trying to figure out how to turn web design into an actual career. I knew I was capable, but I hadn’t quite found the space where I could fully trust myself yet. But building JAL Studios for the last 6 years has changed that. It’s taught me how to trust my ideas, speak confidently about my work and build relationships with founders who were brave enough to pursue their own big ideas too. And I think that’s why I care so much about the work I do. A lot of my clients have already built something good. Their business, confidence and ambitions have grown… but their website is still showing an earlier version of the brand. I know what it feels like to grow into a new level of yourself. You can spend £400 on a Shopify theme and still end up with a website that looks like a basic template. Buying a premium theme doesn’t automatically make your website feel premium. The theme is something to start with, but the customisation is the real magic. That’s why I don’t just install a theme, swap out the colours and call it a day. I’m looking at what your brand needs, what’s your customers need to see and how to bring those two things together in a website that feels like you. The outfits are giving. The campaign is giving. Six years of JAL Studios 🫶🏾 Its crazy when I actually sit and think about it 🥹 When I started my business I didn’t have a master plan for where this business would take me. I’d just finished uni, got a part time retail job and was figuring things out as I went. Somewhere between the client projects, life lessons and sacrifices I’ve made, I’ve built something that’s given me more than a career. I’ve gained experiences I use to dream about, a level of freedom I never imagined for myself and confidence in myself that has shaped the woman I am today. Of course I’m proud of the websites I’ve built for yall, but I’m just as proud of the person I’ve become along the way. Six years in and I’m still figuring things out, still growing and still have so much I want to do with JAL Studios. Things I will almost definitely obsess over on your website. Because not every website needs to look loud, boujee or overpacked with crazy animations. I don’t just pick any Shopify theme and drag your brand into it. Sometimes your websites personality needs an expected layout, or fonts that instantly feel like you, or a custom section that makes someone pause for half a second. I don’t do this to make your website look cooler, I do it because it gives your website personality. And personality that aligns with why your products are worth adding to cart. You’ve signed, paid, so now where do I “disappear” too? My website process isn’t a simply copy and paste. Far from it actually. When I have all the context about your brand, I put on my thinking cap (or my JAL cap 🧢) and start planning your site. I look back on what your goals are for needing a new site. I build your site around what you hope to achieve. My take on the @kishkin.skin website ✨🫶🏾 If you’ve watched the Apprentice, then you know this brand has so much personality to it. The founder is fun, confident, and very much for the girlies. So when I looked at their website I kept thinking: what if their website felt more like the brand we see online. So I did my own take on their Shopify site, to feel youthful and confident, without losing the credibility you need from a skincare brand. And this is simply how I’d transform Kishkin if I were given the creative direction for their site! How do you sell a product people have never seen before? Thats the exact predicament my client was in. At first she had launched a landing page to get preorders for her sensory toy. But the landing page did over explain its features and benefits to the point that it didn’t feel like a website with much purpose (nor gain much preorders). So you could assume I just made the site look “nicer than before”. But actually I made the value of her products easier to understand. Her audience needed to know what the sensory toy was. How it worked. Why they need it. So I rebuilt her website to guide and build trust with her customers so they could confidently make a preorder. And when we launch the site, they did just that. Some might say it’s magic. To me it’s strategy and intent. And that’s for every website I approach! By creating something that felt bold, playful and flavour-led, whilst making it easier for customers to discover the meals and get a feel for the brand.
