Nobody knows who’s inside the banana. Until now. 🍌

Hi, I’m Jalaj. Also known as The Peel Good DJ. Also known as the only DJ in Sydney who performs in a fruit costume. Yes, it’s intentional. No, I don’t regret it.

I moved to Sydney and realised two things. One, this city can feel incredibly lonely. Two, nobody was throwing the pop party I actually wanted to go to.

So I did what any rational person would do. I bought a banana costume, asked ChatGPT how to turn the decks on and started @singmebackparties

That was January 2026. Zero followers. One costume. Absolutely no clue what I was doing.

Four months later The Peel Good DJ is performing at @yourshotau — a global DJ competition presented by @jblaustralia and supported by @alphathetaaus , @smirnoff and @redbullau — at @homesydney on Sunday May 31st.

Your Shot is designed to give emerging and beginner DJs the chance to prove themselves on one of the biggest stages. It’s for the ones who are just starting out, figuring it out and showing up anyway. So yeah. The banana belongs there.

And the day before on Saturday May 30th? The Peel Good DJ is throwing Pop Princess Party, a full night of Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Olivia Rodrigo and every pop princess who ever made you feel something at Mansions Potts Point. Doors 9pm.

Two events. One weekend. One banana who asked ChatGPT how to DJ.

If you’re new here, welcome. The banana is happy you’re here.

The Peel Good DJ at Your Shot, Sunday May 31st 🍌 DM for Tickets.

Ran 21.1km, hit a PB, survived on 2 hours of sleep, and somehow lived to tell the tale.

This HOKA half marathon 2025 wasn’t just a race—it was a full-blown emotional rollercoaster. To set the scene: the night before, I was at a Harry Styles party—yes, a party with a lot of “Watermelon Sugar” and people singing “As It Was” like they were at a concert. With a headache, with only 2 hours of sleep, and my alarm going off like, “Guess what? You’re running a half marathon in a few hours.”

So there I was—slightly delirious, still humming “Golden,” and lining up to run 21.1km with nothing but vibes, muscle memory, and the strong belief that caffeine would somehow pull me through. And honestly? It was incredible. There’s something so special about race day—the energy, the high-fives that feel like power-ups, and the strangers who cheer for you like you’re in the 1D comeback tour (even though you’re moving at a pace that makes sloths look like Usain Bolt).

The signs? Pure magic. Some hilarious, some inspiring, and some just said “Run faster, I just farted,” which weirdly worked. But MY signs? @aleishalangburne , @maramachine , @rahn.i , @anthonybolt133 , @brieanna.c and @davidgsf came through like true legends. You guys made me feel like a sweaty rockstar, keeping my legs moving even when they felt like jelly.

Despite the sleep deprivation, questionable decision-making, and my body wondering if I’d made some sort of deal with the devil around kilometre 18, I hit a PB.

Now? We ice the knees, eat all the carbs and Tim tams , and, of course, look ahead to the next race. Because at this point, I’m convinced I’m addicted to chaos and endorphins.

HOKA Half, you broke me, rebuilt me, and gave me the strength to crush that finish line. My heart is full, my feet are not okay, but my soul? Ready for the next one!! by @jalaj.ig

Volunteered at the @driven.young and somehow came out a more sparkly, slightly emotional, fairy-costume-wearing version of myself.

First time facilitating a team—and I got to do it with the absolute gem that is @stella.jchan . Did we know exactly what we were doing? Debatable. Did we bring good vibes, encouragement, and excessive fist pumps? Absolutely.

In a bold (possibly chaotic) act of personal growth, I shared my story with everyone. Vulnerability: 100. Tears: 1.5. Regrets: 0. It was scary, but so powerful—and honestly, if 18-year-old me could’ve seen me up there, he’d have passed out, then slow-clapped.

Also
wore a fairy costume. In public. And face paint. And I didn’t feel weird. I was weird—and I loved it. Embracing the cringe is now officially my new superpower.

The dance sessions? Electric. The transformation in just two days? Mind-blowing. The pink team photo? Frame it. Hang it in a museum. Tattoo it on my soul.

To everyone who showed up, danced it out, got deep, laughed, cried, and screamed “PINK TEAM!” with absolutely zero chill—you made this weekend unforgettable.

I came to volunteer. I left inspired, exhausted, and incredibly full—in the best possible way. by @jalaj.ig

My First Half Marathon đŸƒâ€â™‚ïž

At the start of 2024, I sat down with my trusty list of goals—“learn origami,” “don’t kill my plants,” and somewhere in there, I wrote: run a race.

I’m no stranger to random challenges. I’ve tried crocheting (results: questionable), bouldering (results: painful), and even sticking with running. Spoiler: I always quit before my shoes had a chance to break in.

Then came November and I signed up for the @sydneytrailhalfmarathon with just one month to prepare. Call it optimism, call it chaos but it was happening.

Race day arrived, and 10 minutes in, I was dying. My ankles twisted, cramps kicked in, and the pain was unreal. I thought I might actually die somewhere on that trail. At least three times, I seriously considered faking an injury to get out of it.

But here’s the thing: I didn’t quit. Because past me had this wild dream, and I wasn’t about to let that stubborn overachiever down.

Somewhere along the way, I even started crying. Not because of the pain (okay, partially because of the pain) but because I realised that I was actually doing the thing I once thought was impossible.

Now, I’m sore in muscles I didn’t know existed, but I’m already weirdly excited for my next race on February 1st. Am I okay? Who knows.

To @jacintaloxley , thank you for surprising me, cheering me on, and holding up those signs like a true legend. Your support kept me moving when my legs wanted to clock out.

To @rahn.i , thanks for planting the idea in my head, whether it was motivation or delusion. Either way, I owe you one (and possibly a massage voucher).

And to @anthonybolt133 , thank you for keeping me accountable, asking every single day if I ran (and not letting me dodge the question). Your persistence paid off—whether my legs are thanking you is another story.

Thing to remember next time: running is just really dramatic walking. by @jalaj.ig

@driven.young Formal nights be like:

Step 1: Pull up to venue channeling main character energy (because if no one else is gonna hype me up, I’ll do it myself).

Step 2: Get completely called out in front of everyone with an award for being “Too Addicted to Instagram.”

Listen, if double-tapping memes and scrolling reels at 2 AM is wrong, then I don’t wanna be right. (Also, how do you even retire from this title @driven.young ? Asking for a friend.)

Step 3: Hit the dance floor like nobody’s watching, but secretly praying everyone notices my one decent move before I accidentally elbow someone mid-spin.

Step 4: Somehow end up in a random hotel room at 3 AM, in the most intense conversation about life’s meaning, childhood trauma, and learning how some people can be obsessed with sneakers (@andrew_freeman02 and @manicruin definitely not calling you out here)

By the end of the night, I’d danced, been roasted, overshared, and heard at least three drunk “I just love you, man” confessions. Woke up the next morning half-convinced it was all a fever dream. But hey, if chaos isn’t the definition of a good night, what is? by @jalaj.ig

This is a shoutout to my two favorite weirdos @lahni.noy and @_kateebrown! Who would’ve thought that meeting these two at Scary Canary would lead to every wild and crazy adventure ever since? Life is strange, but I guess that’s what makes it fun!

First up, let’s talk about Kate, the most annoying one in our trio—after me, obviously. Seriously though, if I had to describe her, I’d say she’s like a mix of a therapist, a mom, and a comedian all rolled into one. She’s super emotionally intelligent, empathetic, and basically my personal Care Bear. But don’t let that fool you—she’s got her drama, and half the time, we’re playing therapist for her! Still, she’s a total sweetheart, and i adore her heaps even if she drives me nuts.

Now, let’s move on to Lahni, aka L Dawg, the ultimate bro. She’s got my back no matter what, especially when I’m feeling low. But let’s be real, she keeps me humble AF, and we all know I need that. She’s the bro-iest bro I know, cooler than a cucumber but also worrying about everything all the time. And can we talk about her brutal honesty? She does not hold back and calls me out on my nonsense faster than I can make it up. Everyone needs an L Dawg in their life; admit it.

So yeah, this is basically just me saying thanks for being the best and for putting up with my nonsense. I’m super lucky to have you both as my best friends. Keep being awesome! by @jalaj.ig

Gatsby 2.0!!

This was the wildest party I’ve ever been to! It all started with Anthony and me just trying to kill some boredom, and somehow it ended with us in a park.

Everything in between is a total blur—not because we were wasted, but because we were living it up like we were starring in a movie or something. Pretty sure we gave Mr. Gatsby a run for his money!

Happy belated birthday , Anthony! This night was all for you and thank you everyone who came. by @jalaj.ig
