Just days until Ramadan and Jamali's touching words (@jamali_brand_content) at our last Open Stage reminded us that Ramadan is a precious opportunity to cleanse our hearts and minds, and return to Allah SWT.

And MashaAllah it will be Jamali's first Ramadan too! May Allah SWT bless Jamali's very first Ramadan as a Muslim and fill it with light and mercy!

Tbh, It took me far longer than it should have to actually get to a TROU event but once I did I knew that I would be a regular!
I don't always get to everything but I always appreciate the immaculate, welcoming community vibes! I was lucky enough to share a feature spot with the incredible @akwalmagek in april for a great open mic poetry night!
Across everything they do there is such a beautiful dedication to supporting those up and coming with a platform to showcase and grow their practice as well as connect and build community.

I experienced something at the launch of Baai Alkebulan earlier this year that I had never felt before. A sense of pride, of self-worth, of possibility. "I walked out of there feeling taller" a friend said to me afterwards.
There is a power in learning your history, not just as a collection of facts that you hold in your head as an individual but as a knowing shared in community. You move different.
The wounds ignorance inflict run deep. The links between the white australia policy and the general level of geographic ignorance here are under discussed. This foundational policy excluded not just physically but philosophically as well. To this day this exclusion and ignorance bleeds into how Africans are seen and understood on this continent – if all that is known of us is suffering and conflict then anything negative said about us can be believed.
Baai Alkebulan cuts through this. Baai Alkebulan shows us that we are beautiful, intelligent and capable people. Baai Alkebulan shows everyone that we are beautiful, intelligent and capable people. In securing Baai Alkebulan we are laying the foundations of a better future for the next generations. Please give what you can #savebaaialkebulan taken in Baai Alkebulan by @jamali_brand_content

3CR APPRECIATION POST!
It's radiothon atm and I want to let people know how dope 3cr community radio is. I have learnt so much from tuning in regularly and the thing that makes it special is that it's not just consumption of information it is a deepening of my connection to place and community. Here are some shows and broadcasts that have been part of that

1. 3cr is the reason I have the community radio plus app
2. Bunjil's Fire is mandatory listening.
3. Shouted it out the other day but Wednesday Breakfast interviewed some people doing grassroots political education on the ground in Burkina Faso and it's great!
4. This is good for background on the struggle in Kanaky, the parallel histories of penal colonies etc
5. 3cr is a place that models solidarity of struggles, it is a blessing to be able to learn about Sudan and Palestine together like this
6. So grateful to learn about the poets and poetry scene that came before me. Big ups to the OG Michael Reynolds
7. Have you ever wondered about the assylum at Yarra Bend? I really appreciated this series because it's so interesting to learn the history of places you often walk thru by @jamali_brand_content

so honoured to have the effervescent Jamali performing for healthy foot pt. 2 tomorrow!!❤️‍🩹🦶

~poetry~
Culture worker, aspiring educator and mixed menace, Jamali Bowden is just a guy trying to figure some stuff out within a community of people who care deeply about each other and the world we live in. Jamali tries to create work that contributes to a language of collective liberation and community. In 2024 he produced the zine, ‘UNSTOPPABLE NOTES TO A PAINFUL RIGHTEOUS MUTATION’, and is currently working on a zine focusing on love masculinity and the need for deep vulnerability and connection between men

Jamali has been a stalwart/custodian of poetry+events in Naarm for as long as Qiqi can remember - he previously complied a hallmark poetry event newsletter - it’s how many people connected to vital happenings and found community 🙂‍↕️ so glad to have Jamali take the stage and share as earnestly as he always does

AMONGST THE GRAPEVINES - A debut memoir by @minneyrichani

Amongst The Grapevines is a mixed form memoir of poetry, prose and digital illustrations. This multifaceted collection explores a deep and personal connection to the Syrian conflict, those afflicted by it and the sense of misplaced identity it has caused. Amongst The Grapevines uncovers both the beauty and the challenges associated with being part of an Australian-Syrian diaspora, the struggle to understand and belong in both worlds and the migrant experience.

We look forward to celebrating with you! taken in Black Spark Cultural Centre by @jamali_brand_content
