Corporate girlies in Ed, you’re already a program manager.

The Pivot Files, Case 01: the lanes, companies and 90-day plan I’d use to move from education into big tech pgm.
Send this to your friend who works in education, and comment “PIVOT” for the complete list.

PIVOT FILE 01 — EDUCATION
What I’d do in the next 90 days
Days 1–30 — TRANSLATE
Take your resume and identify 5–7 examples of:
* programs or curriculum you created
* initiatives you implemented
* stakeholders you managed
* problems you solved
* metrics or outcomes you tracked
* systems or processes you improved
* changes you helped roll out
Rewrite them in Program Management language.
Examples:
“Developed curriculum for 150 students” → Designed and implemented a structured program serving 150 end users.
“Worked with parents and school leadership” → Managed stakeholders with competing priorities and communication needs.
“Tracked student performance” → Used performance metrics to identify gaps and adjust program strategy.
Then review 10–15 job descriptions across the PgM lanes you’re considering and identify the skills employers repeatedly ask for that you do not yet demonstrate.
Look specifically for gaps in:
* business vocabulary
* program metrics
* risk and dependency management
* executive communication
* implementation
* product or technical fluency

Days 31–60 — CURATE & CAST
Pick 2 target PgM lanes, not 20.
For example:
Lane 1: Learning / Enablement Programs Lane 2: Implementation / Customer Programs
Then build a target company list across 3 categories:
Big Tech: Microsoft, Google, Amazon, LinkedIn, Salesforce
Mid-Tech / EdTech: Coursera, Udemy, Instructure, Guild, Chegg
Startups: education technology, workforce learning, AI tutoring, school operations, or learning-platform startups
Then:
* follow people already doing those roles
* study how they describe their work
* identify# 10–15 target companies
* start informational conversations
* save recurring job requirements you keep seeing
* refine your resume and LinkedIn around the two chosen lanes
The goal is to stop looking at “Program Manager” as one giant category.
