He’s mine. His grandmother gave him to me. @jamelholley

I am my brother’s keeper.

We fight. We agree. We disagree. Often. But he’s mine.

I first met Jamel when he was 15 years old, while I was working in Elizabeth and living in Roselle. He did lit drops. Then he recruited other kids from Abraham Clark High School to do lit drops, too. 😂

From there, he became an intern in the legislative district office. Years later, he would succeed me as Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Neil Cohen. Then he became mayor. Then Assemblyman.

Did I mention that we disagree? Sometimes. Oftentimes. 😂

But he’s mine.

Jamel, thank you for joining the Host Committee and supporting the @naturbanleague’s Reclaim Your Vote campaign.

I know you’re bringing your check. Now bring some donors, too. Yes, I voluntold you. We’re family.

Let’s go!!!!! 🗳️

As a longtime champion for cannabis reform in New Jersey, I have fought to end the War on Drugs’ disproportionate harm to Black and Brown communities. As a sponsor of the 2021 legislation legalizing adult-use cannabis, I saw the power of sensible policy: expunging records, creating economic opportunities, and prioritizing social equity.

For decades, advocates have pushed federally to end cannabis’s outdated Schedule I classification, reserved for drugs with no medical use and high abuse potential. This classification has fueled mass incarceration, blocked research, and stifled growth in reform states like ours.

That’s why I applaud President Trump’s executive order, signed today, directing cannabis’s reclassification to Schedule III. This acknowledges its legitimate medical benefits and lower abuse risk, backed by science and millions of Americans.

After stalled progress under prior administrations, this step will ease tax burdens on legal businesses, enable vital research, and better align federal policy with thriving state programs. For patients managing pain, seizures, or other conditions, it promises greater access and innovation, building on state-led reforms like New Jersey’s expungements, reinvestment, and priority licensing.

This ends the era of equating cannabis with heroin. Yet it’s not the finish line: full descheduling and federal legalization are needed for true equity, interstate commerce, and conflict resolution.

I commend President Trump for this bold, commonsense advancement delivering a victory for science, patients, justice, and impacted communities.

Let it catalyze greater change. by @jamelholley

Jack Brewer and Jamel Holley are urging Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon Tory Lanez. He is calling for a second chance for a father to be present in his child’s life. With over 18 million fatherless children in America, we can’t afford to lose another. We’re praying for redemption. by @jamelholley

In 2012, 62% of inmates had at least one chronic illness, a number likely higher today [Bureau of Justice Statistics]. This isn’t just a burden on our healthcare system—it’s a call to action.

It was an honor to join HHS Secretary Kennedy, The Just Trust Foundation, the Correctional Leaders Association (CLA), and John Koufos—one of the architects of the Federal First Step Act—to help forge a bold partnership at the CLA Conference on the HILL uniting leaders from all 50 states including, Commissioners of Corrections, jail directors, and Correctional Health leaders—to transform healthcare in our prisons and jails.

The Healthy Prisons, Healthy Communities project, fully embracing the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) agenda, will tackle this crisis head-on, ensuring every inmate receives treatment, eat healthy not over processed foods, and a path to recovery.

By reducing chronic diseases and strengthening reentry programs, we’ll save billions and build healthier, safer communities.

I’m thrilled to join this working group to make this vision a reality! #MAHA #HealthyPrisons #HealthEquity taken in US Capitol Building by @jamelholley

Where are the daily briefings addressing the black male pandemic?

Where are the remote emergency voting sessions addressing legislation that continue to sit in committees with no movement?

Where is the emergency funding opportunities for our black single mothers and dads that is caused by the racial and wealth disparities in our political system?

Where are the elected officials that scream transparency but yet when bought to task they seek to hide behind the disguise 'OH ITS UNDER INVESTIGATION'

Where are the Executive Orders and Emergency State Departmental Guidelines addressing the immediate health and wealth needs of our black men?

Where are the grants and loans for our black men that achieve to be successful entrepreneurs?

Where is the federal & state legislation that can unrestrict the child support laws so that our black men can receive stimulus checks after we systemically are forced into a biased court system?

Where are the daily Facebook live Q's & A's addressing the profiling of black men?

Where is the LGBTQ - PLUS community, the not for profit organizations, the Women's rights advocacy groups and others when I stood with you when your rights were encroached upon and we won?

Where are the guest columnists of rag on-line newsletters that can't seem to report correct and factual stories? Where are your columns addressing the black man issues?

I'll wait...... You know why I'm asking these questions, because it won't ever happen until we break this human created racial barrier.
I stand up everyday and fight in the halls of power with very influential individuals and yet:

I'm demonized when others don't agree
I'm critized when others don't have factual information
I'm threatened by my own Democratic Party
I'm threatened by leadership to redistrict my Assembly seat and carved out.

So until we fix the system this will continue.
Its not about the bad cops.
We have plenty good officers both male and female.
Its the system. And I don't need anyone telling me about my record standing up for all civil rights.
I have scars and pain. Check the public record.
I know who I am and what I stand for!

So help me fight back! by @jamelholley
