Channelling the freewheelin ethos of the ‘balearic’ sound & style, Tom Howard, James Hearn & Bobby Myseh (@how__to @james___hearn @bobbymyseh) will be guiding the Mt Pleasant dance den through a rollicking barnburner of oddball disco, globe-trotting funk, dubby dynamite and soulful sweaters.

The Balearic Barndance™️ is a high energy and open space for communal dancing—for the leftfield chinstrokers and two-left-feeters alike. So it has found a natural stablemate in the Lido. Come on down & steam up the windows with us...

The hoedown kicks off at 9pm and gallops on until the cows/crows come home. No cover, no jabronis, no problem!

🫶🪩 With the World Cup festivities way off in the rear view mirror, we’ve now closed out the World Cup Dubs EP fundraiser. A huge thank you is in order to all the listeners, dancers & donaters – your support led to a whopping $1,050 donated to the crucial work of local nonprofit @distro_disco ! And thanks to all the balearic diaspora for the love, from North America to Europe to Oceania & beyond...this really felt like a local and global push for a great cause. Special shout to @maccalaaa @nts_radio @baleariclondon @lobestudio_ @penneywaves @stampthewax @soundstationstrategy & countless friends & strangers for helping spread the good word. Our Bucket(!) is well and truly full.

🪩🧤🥋 biiig one-glove-love to Macca for spinning (+ re-spinning) La Copa de La Sardines on his NTS breakfast show. Very few DJs can get you chin stroking & belly laughing through their shows week in week out, and @maccalaaa is at the top of that exclusive league. So the nod of approval means a lot!

On Thursday 2 July, @lobestudio_ will be hosting a (possibly) global-first *Spatial Sound Soccer Social*, screening the Round of 32 knock-out game alongside a DJ set from Show of Hands in 4D sound. Unlike the ambient/downtempo ‘Going to Ground’ residency that usually takes place during this 1st Thursday slot, this Soccer Social night will be more of an uptempo chat-n-listen affair, with @bobbymyseh & @james___hearn providing the musical soundtrack via a specially spatialized version of their new World Cup Dubs EP (plus some other treats).

Ticket sales & merch from the night will raise money for @distro_disco , who run a mobile free store for local DTES & eastvan residents who need extra support with materials, clothes & survival gear. Listen, enjoy & support the local neighbourhood!

Doors & match kick-off at 8pm.

When @bobbymyseh and @james___hearn slid into our DMs offering a link to a series of football-themed edits of the likes of Ricky Martin, Shakira and Skinner & Baddiel, we thought - cor this sounds a bit naff. How pleasantly surprised and humble pie-filled we were to discover what a stroke of genius their Show Of Hands mixtape ‘World Cup Dubs ’26’ is. Not only have they used the vocals from anthemic football songs in remarkably classy fashion over excellent house, garage, afro and ambient beats that would stand up on their own, but they’ve also woven in dozens of pieces of iconic football commentary and sound bites across the mixtape, creating a dreamy and nostalgic ambience throughout that makes for the most impressive, carefully-crafted meeting of football and dance music we’ve ever heard. How the fk you gonna turn the vocals from ‘Three Lions’ into sublimely soulful ‘90s house??? Genius. The EP moves through throbby tech into Balearic-tinged house, afro rhythm and a little garage too - a lovely representation of some of the best parts of UK dance music that nicely mirrors the multiculturalism that makes this country — and tournament — so great.

The mixtape from the UK-born, Vancouver-based duo is available on the Show Of Hands Bandcamp on digital and limited edition cassette and USB, with all proceeds going to @distro_disco, a nonprofit supporting unhoused communities in Vancouver (excellent sleeve notes on their Substack too detailing all the samples). Bravo for the excellent work here (went down very well at our party at @cratebrewery at the weekend as you can see) and for flying the flag for the Balearic sound with their events in the city too. Go support and come on England / Czechia 😉

🪩⚽️ Introducing ‘World Cup Dubs’ ⚽️🪩

This EP a musical ode to the highs, lows and contradictions of football fandom, through re-worked dance floor versions of well known footy anthems.

As the FIFA gravy train rolls into cities across North America, unseen on the highlights reels will be the disruption to already-unhoused communities, as fan zones are ‘beautified’ ahead of the games.

This EP is raising money for @distro_disco - a non-profit running a mutal aid store for communities across the DTES and East Van here in Vancouver. So please dance vigorously and donate generously ⚽️🪩

⚽🪩 You holla’d, we came a’trottin. The Balearic Barndance returns to the Lido on Friday 22 May for more unbridled barn-stomping knees-uppery.

Volume III will double up as a special EP launch party for Show of Hands’ incoming *WORLD CUP DUBS* remix project. With just a few weeks until Fifa’s kleptocratic gravy train rolls into town, Bobby & James have pulled together a dancefloor & pub garden-oriented EP, jam-packed with cult footy nostalgia, tailored to heads & novices alike. Something for all the family.

Exclusive run-outs of the EP will be woven into the usual Balearic Bardance globe-trotting, hip-throbbing sounds…designed to make you move & smile in equal measure.

💾 We’ll be selling the EP with custom-designed USBs, keychains & artwork (big up @_body_double ), direct from the Lido’s tropical DJ booth on the 22nd.

🚐 All profits go to local community nonprofit Distro Disco (@distro_disco), who help unhoused folks around Eastvan & the DTES get essential materials like clothes, tents, water, snacks & harm reduction supplies through their free mobile store. We hope we’re wrong but there’s a good chance these services will be needed more than ever this summer as the major event “clean-up” (read: displacement) machine kicks into gear…
