@james_severe is roughly one of 75,000 individuals who are incarcerated for a technical violation on any given day in the U.S.

A technical violation is a non criminal offense, such as:
- crossing state lines
- missing curfew
- being in the presence of alcohol
- failing to pay court costs
- and marrying someone with a felony conviction

NONE of these are laws. They are rules. And yet,
each day thousands of individuals are put behind bars and pushed to the margins of society.

Join us in shining a light on the experiences of justice impacted individuals and pushing for urgently needed changes to the probation and parole systems.

This article proves I’m worth more than my convictions, more than my past, more than my circumstances. @secondchancestudiosofficial and @cossmarte not only gave me a new career, they gave me a new outlook on life. And I’ll be grateful for that for the rest of my life. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏿 Link in bio for the article. by @james_severe

For anyone who wonders whether second chances are possible, @James_severe is your answer.

After a wrongful parole violation sent him back to prison during college, James didn’t give up. He graduated, beat the odds, and now works full-time at @RocNation’s TV & Film division.

When James first came home, he stayed silent about his past. Like so many returning citizens, he carried the weight of stigma. Now, he leads with his story because he’s seen the power it has to change minds and inspire hope.

Millions still face barriers on supervision. But when they’re met with opportunity, they thrive.

A paperwork slip shouldn’t cost someone their future. But for James Severe, it almost did.
Still, he kept going. He went back to school. He graduated. He’s building the life he dreamed of.
His story shows us what’s possible when we invest in people, not punishment.

15 YEARS! let me say that again 15 YEARS! I graduated high school in 2011 guys. Everything I been through I never gave up. I followed THE PLAN, MY PLAN. Never put a date on it. Look at me now. Made my mama proud, my family proud. Got something for my lil man to be proud of. I proved myself right. You can actually do whatever you set your mind to do. It’s not easy it’s not glamorous but it works. Follow your dreams whatever they may be. Trust me it’s within reach you just gotta go and grab it🫶 taken in Barclays Center by @james_severe
