I am thrilled to share that I have been elected by the National Academy of Design as a National Academician in the Class of 2026. Academicians are elected by the current artist and architect members of the Academy in a tradition dating to the Academy’s founding in 1825.

THE ARTWORKS: EMOTIONAL ARCHITECTURE
@jamescasebere & @cultish.studio

The exhibition emerged from a dialogue between the creatives of @publicisluxe and artists, a curatorial collaboration where perspectives, forms and certainties came together to be questioned.

What if the spaces you see don’t exist? For over forty years, James Casebere has built architectural models by hand, lit them with precision, and photographed them until the fabricated becomes indistinguishable from the real. In Emotional Architecture, he turns to the universe of Luis Barragán, his colours, his silences, his light, and transforms architecture into an image of memory, contemplation and doubt.

Seeing may not be as simple as it seems.

Today I took a tour of the incredible Hotel Terrestre, near Casa Wabi, designed by the firm Taller de Architectura X (TAX) directed by Alberto Kalach in collab. with Fernanda Romandia and Diana Backal. It opened in 2022 and is 100% powered by solar energy.

Mont Albán was one of the most important capitals of ancient Mesoamerica, located on a mountaintop only 10 k or 20 minutes outside of Oaxaca. It was home to the Zapotecs, and later occupied by the Mixtecs. by @jamescasebere

The Tule Tree (Árbol del Tule) is a Montezuma cypress (Taxodium mucronatum) estimated to be between 1,400 and 2,000 years old. Located in the town of Santa María del Tule in Oaxaca, Mexico, it has the largest trunk diameter of any tree on Earth, with a circumference of 42 meters. by @jamescasebere
