🌿 More lettuce than my family can eat, and that's the 👉
When I give talks with @mgofdc on hydroponic gardening, I always start in the same place - food access. The freedom to choose what you eat and where it comes from is something too many people don't have.
The 2024 Vanderbilt Child Health Poll found that nearly 40% of Tennessee families face food insecurity on some level. Meanwhile, I can walk to the edge of my deck and pick lettuce for my lunch, zero transit time and at peak nutrition (moving past peak now since there's so much).
That gap between what's possible and what's accessible is why I keep talking about this.
Every 'body' deserves fresh and nutritious food. The problems are bigger than a hydroponic garden can solve, but maybe it could be a start. 🥬
