I remember speaking with you earlier that day at the gym on the same night of your passing. We were talking about how much you loved biking and that it was truly your spice of life. You then gave me some great advice as you usually do and added at the end that life is too short to not do what makes you happy. I brushed it off as if I already knew that, but now the weight behind those words carries a very different meaning. Not only did you love biking, but you also completed 9 LA Marathons! You told me 2025 would be your 10th and final LAM. I said good luck, but I won’t be joining you this time because 2024 was my first and last time ever doing something psychotic like that. You just smiled and laughed as you continued warming up for our CrossFit class on the assault bike knowing full well I’d probably change my mind someday. Little did I know you would eventually no longer be around to fulfill that goal. I know it’s not much, but I really wanted to finish this one for you. With you. I was honestly so anxious leading up to the race because it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in life. And, I absolutely could not have done it without all the people who supported me, trained with me and cheered for me along the way. But, hey, I did it! 🥹 And, thanks to you, I’m closer to my friends and family now more than ever. Thank you for always being a listening ear whenever I was having a bad day, accepting me for who I am as a queer person by coming to my silly pride party, and for always pushing me to achieve for more as an athlete even when I didn’t believe in myself. You’re truly an inspiration to us all. Rest well, my friend. ❤️ by @jamesgunhokim
