8/100. The point of seeing through something is to see something through it. To see through forever is to be blind. #cslewis #100postchallenge by @jamesharvy

My grandfather, Clifford “Ian” Cochius—English expat, award-winning singer, Shakespearean stage actor, and compère on Stairway to the Stars—was among the founding faces of television in Adelaide when ADS-7 first went to air in 1959.

From concert halls to live broadcast, he always marched to the beat of his own drum.

Although he died young and I never had the chance to meet him, I’ve often felt his presence in my life and work. His legacy is in my blood.

I am living the years he never got and that motivates me not to waste a single moment of them.

RIP, Grandad.

The story continues...

This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatsoever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no ‘brief candle’ for me. It is a sort of splendid torch, which I have got hold of for the moment; and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.

To clarify: happiness is available in every moment and if it’s eluding you, the moment you get present and resonate your being into the now it usually shows up. But the goal should be meaning… happiness is a lovely by product to a life well lived according to your values. Every experience is valuable… even the lows. #100daychallenge by @jamesharvy

Acting Pro Tip:

You don’t DO emotion. You EXPERIENCE emotion (or you don’t… and so what!). The audience wants to feel clever because they figured out what’s going on in the characters’ inner worlds—stop treating your audience like babies. Let them figure it out. You focus on winning the game.

BOOKED!

Leading by example, coach @jamesharvy, straight off the back of a major commercial booking, has recently booked a series guest role.

Here’s what coach James (me — I’m writing the caption… but it’s more fun in third-person) has to say:

“If you want something, find someone who already has it and learn from them.

I’ll tell you one secret for free, better lighting isn’t what’s going to move the needle for you—it’s the acting.

Now get in class and train with me.

Let’s strip away the blocks and get you booking!

Adelaide actor takeover! Wooh! Let’s go! 💪

See you in the room.”
