If you had've told 18 year old James when he was crying on the phone in the Nebraska football stadium to his mum homesick 6 weeks after moving here that he'd make it through 5 years of college he probably wouldn't have believed you. Learned a lot of lessons, developed a lot as a person, and was kept afloat by these two from 10,000 miles away. I somehow made it to the end with a Math degree to my name, and wanting to stay in this country. Nice by @jamesjoycey

This ball on a wire has taught me many lessons over the last 12 months. I've deepened my understanding about trust, belief, happiness, and general wellbeing. I learnt how to love the sport again, and as cliche as it is, I learnt how to differentiate between who I am as a person and how far a ball lands away from me.

For so long I thought being hyper-obsessive in every facet of life over training, recovery, programming and the like would lead to me being the best athlete I could. I couldnt take days off, I couldn't take deload weeks, I couldn't allow myself to live life without thinking about the impact it would have on my throwing. Sure, if you do too much of this stuff maybe it isn't the best for performance. But the further along I get, the more I realise how negatively life can be impacted as a result of this obsessive nature.

The biggest lesson this year was that often caring less can lead to achieving more. Not the season I wanted in terms of numbers on a results page, but lots of learning and self development in both sport and life as a result. 1 year left in the collegiate system, excited at the opportunity to keep chipping away and seeing what I can do. Thanks for listening to my long rant that most won't care for. Cheers by @jamesjoycey

Whole lack of humour in this post compared to my regular stuff but here it goes. Being stuck in America for the last 18 months due to border closures and the uncertainty that comes with it has led to some of the most challenging times of my life. There's been a lot of moments where its absolutely sucked. Yet, in reflection, going through these challenges has led to me learning a hell of a lot more about myself and the world around me than I otherwise would have. Extremely grateful to be able to call this lot my family and grateful to have spent the last 3 weeks at home around them again. Back to America today in the hopes of throwing heavy balls far again.
