POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Almost 20 years ago, I was a student filmmaker from @georgiasouthernuniversity, a kid from a town of 123 people, and my short film THE CAR WASH was accepted by @nfftyfilm. I was lucky enough to sit next to @lillylee15266 and her husband John, who was the COO of @thecw at the time.

My work — and whatever I said — made them decide to mentor me in the years that followed. And so, having John moderate my panel for The American Question at @unitedtalent, was a beautiful full circle life moment.

His kind words choked me up last night, and still do this morning. taken in United Talent Agency by @jameskick

"Make it more cinematic." "Make it moodier." If that's how you've been talking to your DP, this class is for you.

Director and producer James Kicklighter is teaching a Stage 32 4-part class, Cinematography for Directors: Speak the Language of Your DP. Over four sessions you'll build a working visual vocabulary for lenses, light, color, movement, and coverage, so you can tell your cinematographer exactly what you see in your head.

James's most recent documentary, THE AMERICAN QUESTION, earned a 100% critics' rating on Rotten Tomatoes. He shot it with Emmy-nominated cinematographer Jonathan Pope (THE SOCIAL DILEMMA), so he's teaching the director/DP partnership from the inside.

Every session includes an assignment built around your own project, plus handouts you'll keep using, including a Lighting & Mood Vocabulary Guide ("Say This, Not That").

The class starts October 14th, and only a few spots remain. Email Edu@Stage32.com to secure your spot now!

Tag the director friend who keeps saying "you know what I mean" on set.

Work is a Disease. INFECTION, premiering November 7th, Wolf Theater at the Saban Media Center @televisionacad.

When a driven office worker begins to suspect her boss’s mysterious illness is contagious, she must choose between the promotion she desperately needs and the person she still has a chance to remain.

Starring @danielwilliamslopez (The Revenge of La Llorna, Assassination Nation), @isabel_adele and @lisapartridge4265.

Written by Los Angeles based students through the @kidsinthespotlight program, empowering foster youth to tell their stories — paired with professional filmmakers to create and mentor, providing career training for employment in the film industry.

My thanks to our outstanding team of professionals, @jonathanpopedp, @adamtyree, @adamfishbein, @kashafaye, @emily_e_peters, @thee_nessabear, @rose.and.mary, @repettomuzik, @michael_joseph_capuano, our crew, volunteers, and as always, to the students for trusting me with their work.

Thank you to @warnerbros @radfordstudiocenter, @picture.head, @nbcuniversal for production support and the whole team at Kids in the Spotlight. taken in Emmys / Television Academy by @jameskick

Making a documentary? Here is the whole job, in eight steps.

1. Plan the interview and write your questions.
2. Bring in the interview and mark the best lines.
3. Put the lines in order, then press play.
4. Get releases signed and keep track of consent.
5. Log each archive clip and what it costs.
6. List every claim and where it came from.
7. Finish the cut in the app, or send it to your editor.
8. Export the captions and every file you owe.

Each step uses what you entered in the one before, so you never type it twice. Your footage stays on your Mac.

Walk into The Room ready.

Pick who you’re meeting: an investor, a producer, a streamer, an agent, an actor or a funder. The Room builds your pitch from what the project already holds, in the order that person cares about. If something’s missing, it tells you instead of making it up.

Your First Look boards, storyboards, comps and deck are already there, in any of 18 slide designs. Rehearse against a 7-minute or 3-minute clock, and Practice counts your filler words and pace.

Then present straight from The Room: on a second screen, over SharePlay, or shared into Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. The audience sees the pitch. Your notes stay on your screen.
